Here comes the seventh edition of the “Sciabaca” festival organized by Rubbettino in Soveria Mannelli

SOVERIA MANNELLI After the “small” edition of last year, due to Covid, “Sciabaca”, the Rubbettino festival dedicated to the great themes of Mediterranean culture, resumes with its usual and tested format made up of exhibitions, concerts, conferences, debates.
As per tradition, the event will be held in Soveria Mannelli, in the second half of September, from 22 to 25, after the reopening of the schools, to allow children to take part in the initiatives, some of which are specifically designed for them.
Also that of this edition – the seventh – will be a full calendar of events with a particularly rich book of guests.
It begins on Thursday 22nd with the vernissage of the exhibition by Pino Deodato “Had the golden hands”, dedicated to the figure of Peppino Leo, an entrepreneur who was able to ferry the historic Lanificio Leo from an archaic to an industrial model, while fully respecting the tradition.
Friday 23 opens with a lectio magistralis by Luigi Tassoni on the theme “Writers of the South, writers of Europe” during which we will talk about the European dimension of some Calabrian writers such as Corrado Alvaro or Saverio Strati. It continues in the afternoon with an original creative reading workshop held by Romina Arena and, at 5.00 pm, with the inauguration, at the Michele Caligiuri Library, of an exhibition on Giacomo Casanova, spy and libertine, which includes, in collaboration with ETT People & Technology, the use in virtual reality of some contents provided by the Casanova Museum & Experience in Venice.
At 6 pm, Antonio Polito and Gaetano Quagliariello will hold a meeting on internal Italy, the paths and the “warm society”. A debate will follow on football and the importance of sport for the territories in which Marco Rubbettino, Filippo De Cello, author of the book “Garibaldina forever” and Annalisa Nicastro co-author, together with Claudio Donatelli, athletic trainer of the national team, of the book “L ‘invincible summer’. A video message from Roberto Mancini will be broadcast during the evening. Immediately after the live live of the Italy-England match together with a show-cooking of the nougat makers of Bagnara.
Saturday will open with the traditional excursion aimed at getting to know the ancient paths and the territory. This year we will reach the Abbey of Corazzo with a circular route that will have the “La Rosa nel Bicchiere” farmhouse as a starting and finishing stop. At 4 pm instead a debate moderated by Gianfranco Manfredi with Piero and Gianni Lacorazza that will start from the volume “Buon Appennino. The culture of food in internal Italy ”, published in the“ Civiltà Appennino ”series.
At 5.30 pm, in the gardens of Palazzo Marasco, formerly Passalacqua, a meeting with the writer Francesco Pileggi, author of the book “When my mother wore Franz Beckenbauer’s shirt” who will talk with Andrea Iovene.
Another traditional appointment in Sciabaca is the lectio magistralis on Saturday evening which, this year will be entrusted to Egidio Ivetic, professor of Eastern European History at the University of Padua and which will have the theme “The Mediterranean”.
The evening will close with a concert by Fabio Macagnino and Francesco Loccisano and, at the same time, a tasting of “Terre di Cosenza” wines.
Sunday morning second appointment at Lanificio Leo with the presentation of the book “Had the golden hands” by Prashant Cattaneo which illustrates the works of Pino Deodato on display. The author will talk with Paolo Manfredi, Sabina Melesi and Emilio Leo.
This will be followed by a meeting with Antonio Fazari, Maurizio Pescari and Francesco Saliceti at the Rosa nel Bicchiere which will have as its theme “Oil and the other ingredients of life”. He could not fail to follow (given the time and place) a lunch buffet set up by chef Antonio Torchia in collaboration with Olearia San Giorgio which will feature extra virgin olive oil.
In the 2020 edition of Sciabaca, the setting up near the Rubbettino Industries of the “Carta” contemporary art park was announced, a park that will be inaugurated on Sunday 25 at 5 pm with the first two works: “Time Cutouts” by Rachele Maistrello
and Stefan Alber’s “Control Beam”. On the occasion there will also be the ribbon cutting of the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Rubbettino industries which saw the light in Soveria Mannelli in the winter of 1972.
As usual, the Festival closes its doors with an appointment dedicated to spirituality. This time we will talk, together with TV2000 journalist David Murgia, about the mystery of the most revered painting of Jesus in the world.
This year’s edition aims to represent not only a return to normality after the dark years of the pandemic, but also a way to reaffirm the centrality of inland areas, the bone of the country, from which necessarily to start again to face the challenges economic and social issues that the whole world will find itself facing in an increasingly decisive way in the immediate future.
