Bishop kneels before superior of Missionaries of Charity expelled from Nicaragua

The Bishop of Tilarán-Liberia (Costa Rica), Msgr. Eugenio Salazar Mora, knelt to greet the superior of the Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who were expelled from Nicaragua on Wednesday by the government of President Daniel Ortega.

In a video shared by Bishop on his Facebook accountyou can see how he greets the nuns one by one, who kiss his episcopal ring, in the parish of Cañas, which is on the border with Nicaragua.

Upon reaching the superior Bishop Salazar kneels and it is he who now kisses the hand of the nun.

The Diocese of Tilarán-Liberia reported that “the reverence that Monsignor Manuel Eugenio makes towards the Mother Provincial is a sign of willingness and service towards this community”.

“By receiving you we have received Jesus Christ”

In a video posted on July 7the Bishop said he did not know the reasons for the expulsion of the nuns, who “remain silent because they are religious, because of their spirituality of disappearing, of not entering into controversy, and they offer their pain for the Costa Rican people.”

They have had difficult times, fearful of their physical integrity, knowing that there are several of different nationalities and some older. They were very worried until they reached Costa Rican territory,” the Prelate continued.

If it had been up to them, they would stay in NicaraguaThey love Nicaragua, the Nicaraguan people, especially those most in need”, the Bishop highlighted.

“I do not see any fault in them, they are only women, consecrated wives of Jesus Christ, who only intend to serve the poor, do many things that many others do not do”, he stressed.

“But well, that is the life of the Christian, also the martyrdom dimension is part of Christian spirituality. The Church of Jesus Christ is the persecuted Church, otherwise it would not belong to Christ”, assured Msgr. Salazar.

Following the example of the Holy “Mother Teresa of Calcutta, they they only claim a privilege: to love and serve the poor, the most needy”, said the Costa Rican Bishop.

After requesting prayers for Nicaragua, the Prelate stressed that “in receiving you we have received Jesus Christ. You are brave women, of simplicity. Count on us, we are at your service”.

The expulsion of the Missionaries of Charity from Nicaragua

The regime of Daniel Ortega, in power for 15 years, carried out the expulsion of 18 Missionaries of Charity from the Central American country on July 6.

According to the EFE agency, the dissolution of the Missionaries of Charity and another 100 NGOs in Nicaragua was approved on June 29 by the National Assembly, as “urgent” and without any debate.

The National Assembly, Nicaragua’s legislative body, is controlled by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), led by Ortega.

Among the nuns there are seven Indians, two Mexicans, one Spanish, two Guatemalans, one Ecuadorian, one Vietnamese, two Filipinos and two Nicaraguans.

At the end of his message, the Bishop of Tilarán-Liberia said that “love will win, love will triumph. The last word has God and not man. Forward Nicaragua, forward Nicaraguan Christians! Long live Christ the King!”
