Alliance of civilizations: Fez capital of dialogue and spirituality

The ninth edition of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Global Forum, under the patronage of King Mohammed VIis scheduled from tomorrow for two days, November 22 and 23 in Fez.

The sovereign as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee has always advocated inter-religious dialogue for the promotion of peace throughout the world. The Kingdom, we remember, had a resolution unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly in July 2019 for the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue and the fight against hate speech.

On this occasion, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos, following the announcement of the holding in Morocco of the ninth edition of this world forum, had welcomed, last September in New York, ” vision, commitment and support of the sovereign who has demonstrated how Morocco promotes the values of understanding, fraternity, listening and dialogue »,.

Under the main theme ” strengthening peace and coexistence », the event aims to be a leading global platform for promoting intercultural and inter-religious dialogue and building bridges of understanding and cooperation between peoples to consolidate the values of tolerance and coexistence.

On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Nations, Antonio Guterres landed Monday in Fez where he was welcomed by the Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale. He should stay in Morocco until Wednesday, we learned.

Several country representatives are also expected at this grand event that is the World Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

UN Under-Secretary General and High Representative Moratinos also insisted that ” the choice of this city is not at all a coincidence by the load of its historical heritage and its spiritual symbolism “.

Indeed, throughout the centuries, the spiritual capital has become a crossroads of dialogue and a symbol of tolerance and living together. Morocco is consolidating its status as a land of peace and dialogue, while reaffirming its firm involvement in international efforts to promote mutual understanding between peoples and cultures.

This edition coincides with a difficult global situation and many global challenges and issues need to be overcome. In this context, Morocco and the UN are committed to making the 9th UNAOC a success commensurate with the challenges facing the world.

This is the first time that an African country has hosted UNAOC, with all that that entails in terms of Morocco’s role in bringing cultures and countries of the continent and the rest of the world closer together.

There is no doubt that the spiritual capital of the kingdom will strive, through this forum, to convey a message of peace, dialogue, tolerance, harmony and mutual understanding, in a complex geopolitical context, as well as to highlight the Moroccan model of “living together”, in which the coexistence of religions and the dialogue between cultures have been enshrined throughout the long history of the kingdom.
