XXV edition of the «Religion Today Film Festival»

The “Religion Today Film Festival” is 25 years old and will take place this year from 14 to 21 September 2022 in Trento, Lavarone, Baselga di Pinè, Arco, Dro and Bolzano. This is an edition that, promises the president of the Festival Alberto Beltrami, “will see films in competition of a very high quality, as well as all the collateral events, which I hope will make a contribution to building a true culture of peace”.

Born from an idea of ​​Lia Beltrami and today carried out by the BiancoNero Association with the aim of promoting independent cinema on spirituality and the comparison between cultures and faiths, the Festival has over time become a laboratory of coexistence, encounter and dialogue. In recent years, more than 18,000 films and documentaries have come to the event, 2,200 artists and directors from all over the world met, while the spectators were more than 50,000. Always itinerant, the event started from Trento and stopped in Bologna, Ravenna, Rome, Camerota, Milan, Nomadelfia, Jerusalem, Teheran, Mar Musa in Syria, Cambridge, Sao Paulo Brazil, Dhaka, Kazan, Los Angeles, Thailand .

The 25th anniversary edition will kick off on September 14 with the inauguration of the “Tenda di Abramo” which will permanently host the photographic exhibition “Women of Extreme Lands”, by Caterina Borgato, and the many events including 10 masterclasses dedicated to young people. In the evening the opening ceremony will take place at the Social Theater of Trento, at 8.30 pm: the dance of the Sufi dervishis of the Sufi Ensemble Rabbaniyya, the intervention of the director of Avvenire Marco Tarquinio, the tribute to Lucio Dalla by the Trentino singer-songwriter Alberto Beltrami , the performance of the Sosat choir “From Trentino to the World” with Anthony Mazzella’s infinity guitar.

Thursday 15 a forum will be held at the Tent of Abraham in which some women who come from all continents and represent different religions and faiths will take part. During the days there will be cultural aperitifs, book presentations and screenings. Some meetings reserved for school students are also scheduled. At the same time, the 42 films and documentaries in competition from 23 different countries will be shown free of charge at the Cinema Modena and the San Marco Theater in Trento, as well as in the other regional venues.

During the entire duration of the Festival there will also be 25 women of 15 different religions belonging to the “Women of Faith for Peace” movement, founded by Lia Beltrami and Leone d’Oro per la Pace 2017 which, born 12 years ago between Israel and Palestine , deals with promoting interreligious dialogue and confrontation.

The director Morghen, will lead the event together with his young staff, bringing the heart of the events in the mountains of Trentino: the final award ceremony will be held right in the location of Baselga di Pinè, Sunday 18 September at 3 pm, at the “Baita del Mett” hut.

Made thanks to the contribution of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Trentino Alto Adige-Südtirol Region, the Municipality of Trento, the Cinema Directorate of the Ministry of Culture, the Festival is also supported by the Archdiocese of Trento, through the staff of the Diocesan Missionary Center, that with professionalism and attention manages the reception of the numerous international guests of the Festival.
