LETTER FROM THE “DARE TO RETURN” COMMITTEE

Dear Valsusa Today,
I am attaching the letter that fellow citizen Mauro Galliano (toy shop via Umberto I, Sant’Ambrogio) wrote on the occasion of the “Battaglia delle Chiuse” event. With Mauro and other friends of our town, we formed the “Dare to go back” Committee, with the aim of working for a redevelopment of the historic center – now reduced, in general indifference, to a sort of Ghost Town – and promote Saint Ambrose’s access to the Sacra …
Many were perplexed by Avigliana’s decision to guarantee a shuttle (and train stop) for the Sacra, which bypasses the S. Ambrogio station (and also that of the Chiusa).
The same goes for the “Francigena cycle path” which, again, cuts out our town: yesterday we took a tour following the path that goes from the Chiusa to Avigliana, passing through gardens and horror film walls, which exclude the existing one. and pretty S. Ambrogio cycle path.
If you have not taken the tour, I invite you to do so, following the road signs (mini-signs, among other things, poorly positioned and scarcely visible), and you will face scenarios worthy of a story halfway between the dystopian and the jumanji, with a concrete road that winds its way through foliage and invasive vegetation and then runs alongside horrid post-industrial walls and railways …
In addition to the bad aesthetic taste (what a beautiful business card of the Valley!), It seems that there is also a “political design” that wants to make S. Ambrogio a town cut off from tourism and visibility: a town to boycott, to leave abandoned to itself and made more and more ghetto. For many of us, all of this is not good.

THE LETTER OF MAURO GALLIANO

With no small regret, I decided to keep the shop closed on Saturday 25 June, on the occasion of the “Battaglia delle Chiuse” event. For some weeks the Avigliana train station has been included in the railway tourist package which includes the cumulative ticket with the shuttle that goes up to the Sacra di San Michele.
This package, in addition to seeing it included as a reference railway station for the Sacra in the official sites and in the ticket offices under the heading “Sacra di San Michele”, also includes a discount on the entrance ticket for visiting the monument.
The same thing, unfortunately, does NOT happen to the unfortunate tourist who decides to go down to Sant’Ambrogio to face the climb via the ferrata or the mule track!
All this is the result of an unjust and discriminating decision, disrespectful of history, traditions, architecture and religiosity!
What should have been a monument to be shared to the point of renouncing all historical, territorial, landscape and not least spiritual rights has instead become an easy booty for those who have not had too many scruples and, despite having NO deep connection with the monument , has turned it into a business for its exclusive use.
A little as if the paternity of the lakes or the historic center of Aviglianese were stolen from another municipality, in total silence.
Our country does not have too many opportunities nor does it enjoy the many privileges of many neighboring towns. You don’t pay dizzying IMUs because there aren’t hundreds of stately villas scattered among its rolling hills.
Nor has it collected over the years urbanization charges for various shopping centers and supermarkets.
Everyone has what fate has given him or what he deserves.
Destiny was very generous with the Santambrogese community, privileging us with a sweet shadow that accompanies our lives.
But who knows for what strange alchemical mystery the possible “advantages” of the Sacra must instead be shared!
Perhaps Avigliana shares its fat budget with the Santambrogese community by sharing IMU, urban planning costs and tourist receipts on the shores of the lake?
For too many years, by dint of “sharing” and “creating a system”, we have renounced what history, destiny and popular spirituality have generously handed over to us.
I love my country too much to see it punctually placed in the corner in silence and general indifference.
I hope that this “lockout” of mine will create a serious and lively debate in order to completely question the route and the terminus of the shuttle, the official status of the railway station and the discounts on the price of the ticket for admission to the Sacra.
I apologize to the customers, friends and numerous visitors who expected to find this shop open this evening. I look forward to seeing you all again starting Tuesday morning.
A warm hug and happy party to all.
Mauro Galliano
