A few days ago Thich Nhat Hanh, one of the most important spiritual guides in the world, has left the body. To celebrate the extraordinary figure and the important teachings of this master, Saturday 5 February at 6 pm the Odeon cinema in Florence presents its national premiere the documentary THICH NHAT HANH: GONE WITH THE WIND, one of the most important films made about Thich Nhath Hahn and his teachings.

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) was one of the most influential spiritual leaders of the 20th and 21st centuries, nominated by Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the 60s and 70s his anti-militarist views and his commitment to the Vietnam War he had placed him at odds with the governments of both North and South Vietnam, as well as with the United States, and had been forced to leave his country, living in exile. He has firmly supported the Buddha’s teachings all his life. He dedicated his life to finding the key to get out of suffering and taught to “live in the present moment”. “It is possible to suffer less – Thay teaches – if you have the time to listen to your suffering and the suffering of the world”. Thay has published more than 100 books, among Buddhist writers he is second only to the Dalai Lama, his book “The Miracle of Mindfulness” is one of the most influential works globally.

The story of this great master, and was made by a team that has reconstructed it starting from Plum Village, the largest Buddhist monastery in Europe, founded more than thirty years ago near Bordeaux, France, and attended by more than 10 thousand people a year. This is where Thay taught the “Awareness“, Or learning to return to the“ here and now ”to live in the present moment, developed through the practice of Meditation. “Meditation – Thay teaches – is not an escape from society, but a return to ourselves and see what happens. Once that is seen, there must be action. With Awareness we know what we must and must not do to help ”. The film is the story of this great change, which from an individual can extend to all beings and to the whole world.
