With the conviction that in terms of social work the transformations are not going to end, and that it is necessary to work with the spirituality of the people, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz- Canel Bermúdez, led, this Thursday, the concluding day of the visit of the Secretariat and the auxiliary structure of the Central Committee to the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
Very early in the morning, the Cuban president arrived at the La Caoba neighborhood – located in the Juan Delio Chacón Popular Council – a small settlement in the Pinero territory, where transformations began at the end of January 2022.
According to the website of the Presidency, there the Head of State expressed that, in social work, every time a stage is reached, it will be necessary to follow a higher one.
Accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, the dignitary, when exchanging with local authorities and with the people, recalled the value of the work of a social worker in the community.
“Social workers come here,” Díaz-Canel called a group of young people in La Caoba, while stressing that they are the ones who have been investigating for years, doing professional work on each social problem. «It is supposed that there is a diagnosis made, that it has a sociological, anthropological approach, of essences of the neighborhood, of culture, of identity. That’s what you have to base yourself on,” he said.
This work, defined the Head of State, “has to be the basis, because here the first thing is to work with the spirituality of the people, with feelings, in education, in culture.”
After learning that in La Caoba the favorable changes have been marked by investments so that there is water, the creation of a space for sports, the construction of a food outlet, and other projects to benefit the neighborhood, the President emphasized in the possibility of the community growing while solving its main problems.
Before saying goodbye, the Head of State wanted to know about the mood and opinions regarding the Family Code, and after listening to the interventions of the neighbors, he affirmed that the new regulatory proposal is a Code, facing the present near and future.
SCIENCE, PRODUCTIVITY AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT
As part of his journey, the President also reached the III Congress Ceramic Factory, a place that before the hard blow of the 90s, was a hallmark of the Isle of Youth, and even beyond the waters of the territory.
After touring the large warehouses that were once vortexes of intense production – but which have been impacted by obsolescence, lack of some raw materials or fuel – Díaz-Canel inquired about issues such as salary, current working conditions and the possible investments. In this scenario, the Head of State affirmed that “if we have to carry out an experiment in local development anywhere, it is on the Island.”
Under heavy rain, the next point on the president’s tour was the Máquina número Uno farm, where he spoke with the peasant Neuclides Beirut González, who stands out for harvesting various crops, especially bananas.
The commercialization of the production, the fulfillment of the payment in time, the stability of the work force and the possible incursion in the sales in foreign currency, among other matters, characterized the dialogue between the President and the renowned producer.
Later, the Head of State visited the Jesús Montané Oropesa University, where Rafael Ernesto Licea, rector of the institution, specified that 22 careers are studied at the center, and within the cloister there are 26 Doctors of Science and 157 Master’s degrees.
Regarding this achievement, the dignitary stressed that “if we do not train doctors, there are no pulleys that move scientific development.”
During the exchange, the President also alluded to the value of a robust and local production design system; and in which students and teachers can help.
He pondered the need to transform the spiritual dimension of people, and do it for the better; stimulate government management based on science and innovation, project local development strategies that leave behind the impacts of the special period, in addition to making every effort so that the Isla de la Juventud recovers its traditional productive fronts.
At the close of the meeting, the certainty was ratified that, only with intelligence and own forces, Cuba will be able to live the luck of growth.
THE ISLAND CAN BE A MODEL MUNICIPALITY
«The Party cannot allow, in its ranks and in other spheres, accommodations, insufficiencies, indiscipline; It is a duty to constantly improve the work, to generate debates in which the criticism and ideas of the membership and the population are later turned into proposals to transform,” said President Díaz-Canel, when making the conclusions of the visit to the Isle of Youth.
At the meeting, the president made a call to improve the organization of partisan work in the territory, with emphasis on its link with the base, the economy and services to the population.
He also insisted that the militancy must be more active, increase its participation in the processes and debates to generate revolutionary consensus that allows reality to be transformed towards better ways of functioning.
“Cuba lives today in a complex scenario, not only from an economic point of view – aggravated and exacerbated by the shortcomings generated by the US blockade of the country – but also due to the constant media attacks on virtual platforms; Therefore, it is urgent to develop creative resistance, as we have done up to now, exploiting to the maximum all the human potential that we have to grow and develop, and there the organization plays a fundamental role, “he explained.
The Cuban president reiterated that the Isla de la Juventud is a territory that has the installed capacity in terms of structure, human resources and institutions to design a work system that allows it to become the model municipality that Cuban socialism needs.
In this sense, he praised the maturity reached by the Jesús Montané Oropesa University, endowed with qualified personnel to manage knowledge from science and innovation, in order to contribute to the strengthening and concretion of the territorial development strategy.
He highlighted, in the same way, the necessary participation of that House of Higher Studies to rescue some of those programs that identified the pineros for years, such as citrus and ceramics. “These are aspirations that we cannot give up,” he said.
The President also dedicated time and arguments to reinforce knowledge about the reasons for approving the new Family Code, which he called the Affections Code, due to the fairness, inclusion, opportunities and humanism that it includes in its letter and spirit.
However, he pointed out that there are still people who need to understand better and in greater depth the benefits of this norm, which does not exclude anyone, but rather broadens the rights for all types of families existing in the country.
On the other hand, Félix Duarte Ortega, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party, when presenting the summary of the visit to the special municipality, listed, among the main demands of the population of Pineros, transportation, food supply, the critical situation with the aqueduct and sewage system, and the deficiencies in the administrative management of the companies.
He reported that the opinion stood out that the territory is stagnant, and that the leaders do not systematically link up with the people.
Regarding the functioning of the partisan organization, the report pointed out deficiencies in the organization of the work at the base, and a downward trend in the partisan ranks.
The object of criticism was also the attention given to the Union of Young Communists and the rest of the political and mass organizations, as well as the insufficient presence and participation in the ideological battle on social networks.
Díaz-Canel urged the application of innovative and creative ways to motivate, incentivize, add, explain…, while stressing that the militants must be the most prepared and comprehensive, not only to fulfill tasks, but also to contribute ideas , projects and solutions from the collective experience in its radius of action.
“We trust you!”, concluded the Head of State, when closing the visit of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its auxiliary structure, which since last September 12 visited 94 centers, 17 communities, and held dialogues with some 3,700 people from that small Island, where great challenges are assumed.
