Food: The downtown summer market is back for another season. New this year is Thursdays from 2-6 p.m. Thursday at the North Science Market, which, in addition to the regular market day, will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday on Elgin Street, next to the train station. Parking is free at both locations. More than 40 vendors are expected each week.

Film (Ticket Purchase): Cinefest is pleased to announce that Passports and Passport+ are now available for purchase. General admission ticket books and show tickets will be available in mid-August, while the full lineup of Cinefest movies will be announced on August 25. Army: Canadian War Retirees at Fred Vincent, Sudbury Branch, will celebrate the National Organization’s Centennial at 2:00 p.m. August 7 at the 564th RC Lockerbie Branch. The branch will also hold its final parade that day. Then, on August 9, the branch will hold a memorial service for all Afghan veterans at the Lasalle Boulevard Funeral Cooperative.

Comedy (ticket purchase) Comedian, podcast host and author Bert Krecher has added Sudbury history to his The Berty Boy Relapse tour. Kreischer will perform at the Sudbury Arena on December 11. Musical: Sudbury Theater Center and YES Theater set to present Ride the Cyclone. which was successful in Canada, as well as in Chicago and off Broadway when it originally aired in 2010. It tells the story of six teenagers in a hall choir in small-town Saskatchewan. When they are killed in a bizarre serpentine train crash, a fortune teller invites them to tell their story, pitting them against each other for the ultimate prize: the chance to live again. Ride the Cyclone will take place at the Sudbury Theater Center from July 29 to August 14. Ticket information is available at sudburytheatre.com.

Art: The Art Gallery of Sudbury, 251 John Street, invites you to a major new exhibition by Sudbury visual artist Johanna Westby, titled Natural Contrast. The exhibition lasts until September 4. Admission is free with a donation.

Art: A new gallery, Spirit Island, has opened at the Perivale Gallery on Manitolin Island. Cathy Boyd’s paintings are inspired by Manitoulin Island. Music history: An exhibition has opened at Collège Boréal in Sudbury, celebrating the life of Mary Travers, also known as La Bolduc, the legendary French-Canadian singer of the 1930s. Madame Bolduc collects archival documents , costumes, instruments and personal messages that will make you discover or rediscover this artist who has become an icon of French Canada. The free gallery is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Collège Boréale’s Alphonse Desjardins Resource Center, located at 21 Lasalle Boulevard in Sudbury.
