Shortbread Festival. A comedy

It is under a new artistic direction that will launch, this Wednesday, August 24, the 2022 edition of the Shortbread Festival (Sarthe).

The traditional meeting aims to open the baroque music to all audiences. On the program, over four days, concerts, shows and meetings.

For her first participation, Laure Baert, in charge of programming, opted for the theme “Festivities and celebrations”. The tour of appointments not to be missed.

Molière is 400 years old

In opening, the Shortbread Festival will celebrate with the public a beautiful anniversary, that of the 400 years of the birth of Moliere.

At 8:30 p.m., at the Joël Le Theule theater in Sable-sur-Sarthespectators will be able to discover the comedy-ballet Forced marriage to music by Lully. The famous Sabolian dance company L’Éventail will share the stage with the soloists of the Concert Spirituel and the company Les Malins Plaisirs.

Harpsichordist Jean Rondeau will present a program of remarkable works by Bach Thursday, August 25 at 11 a.m., in the church of Burn.

In the church of Sandthat same day, at 4 p.m., the young artists of the ensemble of the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu will in turn celebrate the most beautiful instrumental pages of Bachbut also of VivaldiHandel and Pachelbel.

Then place the baroque music at 9 p.m. with the Ensemble del Sol concert on Thursday August 25 at the Joël Le Theule theater in Sand.

Shadow Theater at Baroque Festival

Wanting to open the festival to new artistic forms, L’Entracte, the Sabolian cultural association in charge of the event, offers to discover a show mixing baroque music and shadow theater.

The Nightingale and The Emperor of China will be presented Friday, August 26 at 2 p.m. at the Joël Le Theule theater in Sable-sur-Sarthe. An appointment that invites young and old around this andersen’s tale.

The Ensemble Les Métaboles will offer a moment of grace and spirituality around the art of spatialized choirs that same day at 4 p.m. in the Notre-Dame-du-Chêne basilica in La Chapelle-du-Chêne.

Rising figures of the Baroque

A new star of baroque singing will be on display at 9 p.m. in the church of Sand. Joan of Bique will be accompanied by the Concerto Koln ensemble for the French premiere of the tour Mirrors. It will sublimate the great female figures of the operas of Handel and his contemporaries.

Another rising figure to listen to, the cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand, rewarded at the Classical Music Awards 2022. Saturday August 27, at 11 a.m., in the church ofAuvers le Hamonshe will resume the Sequels of Bach.

And to close the Shortbread FestivalGabetta Consort will take the public on a journey by mixing the worlds of composers Vivaldi and Piazzolla, between Italy and South America. This final point will be given at 9 p.m. at the Joël Le Theule theater in Sable-sur-Sarthe.

Alongside these various concerts and shows, the public will be able to enjoy free outdoor performances.

With Love Songsthe Vedado Ensemble will immerse the spectators in the heart of the most beautiful love stories told in the baroque music. Meet at Place Dom Guéranger at Sable-sur-Sarthe Friday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m.

The next day, on this same square, the singer Noëmi Waysfeld, as well as the cellists Juliette Salmona and Louis Rodde will share the stage at 6:30 p.m. in a concert that combines baroque and French song, from Vivaldi at Barbara.
