According to the biography ‘Down at the End of Lonely Street: The Life and Death of Elvis Presley’, by Peter Harry Brown and Pat H. Broeske, Albert Holmanvery close to Presley’s mother, Gladys, confronted Presley before the wedding.

She said she found him crying and asked him why he didn’t cancel it and he replied: “I do not have any other option”according to the book.

There were rumors that Priscilla’s father had threatened Elvis with reporting him for having crossed state lines with a minor.

Elvis was known for his numerous romances throughout his career, especially with his film co-stars. For example, with the actress Ann Margaretduring the filming of ‘Viva Las Vegas’, a link that had already lasted 1 year when it reached the media.

After Elvis took Priscilla to ‘Graceland’ in 1963, he began to distance himself from her.

Colonel Parker thought that the best way to make money was ‘big screen’and Presley settled in Hollywood.

Priscilla stayed in Memphis. The distance between them became a problem in their relationship.

“Most of the time I stayed in Memphis and filled my time in the dance studio“, he recalled.

In an interview he did Barbara WaltersPriscilla confessed the little sex with Presley: “There was an agreement he made with himself that the woman he decided to take as his wife would keep her that way until he married her“(No. of the R.: virgin until marriage). And already married, Presley went to Hollywood.

The funeral

All this is remembered for the new anniversary of Presley’s death and a box office hit that is the movie ‘Elvis’. Elvis Presley’s funeral was in Memphis, Tennessee; 08/18/1977: 80,000 fans outside his house, ‘Graceland’.

Presley was buried next to his mother, Gladys Lovein Forest Hill Cemetery, in a marble mausoleum, and his residence was converted into a museum.

Presley’s death, on 08/16/1977, was shocking and ordered 300 National Guard soldiers to go to Memphis to maintain order.

All buildings in the city lowered their flags to half-staff.

Elvis was embalmed at Memphis Funeral Home and returned to Graceland on 08/17/1977, where a public viewing of the casket, ordered by Elvis’s father, Vernon, was set up in the lobby.

Wooddale Church of Christ Pastor CW Bradley spoke at the ceremony; So was comedian Jackie Kahane, who often opened for Elvis shows. Elvis tour veterans JD Sumner and the Stamps, The Statesmen and Kathy Westmoreland performed some of Elvis’ favorite anthems, including ‘Heavenly Father’.

At the end of August of that year, a thief tried to steal the body of Elvis. His and his mother’s coffins were moved to the Meditation Garden, at ‘Graceland’ in October 1977.

WHY DID ELVIS PRESLEY DIE?

gospel

Another curiosity: Elvis Presley claimed to be a devout Christian. Is this to recover his public image, which has been severely damaged by the abuse of drugs, alcohol and women?

“I have read many biographies of people close to him who said that Elvis was always in conflict with God”wrote Mark Maciasin ‘The King: The Final Hours’, a play for theater.

“He wanted to give his talent to God, but the world was too tempting to resist.”

Elvis’s relationship with God began early. He and his family attended the First Assembly of God Church in Tupelo, Mississippi.

He was baptized 2 times as a child, once in Tupelo and again as a teenager by a Pentecostal pastor in Memphis (and was baptized a 3rd time, now deceased, by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mormons) ).

“I believe in the Bible” said on one occasion. “I believe that everything good comes from God. I don’t think I would sing the way I sing if God hadn’t wanted me to.”

Lisa-Marie PresleyElvis’s daughter, said that the gospel (Christian music created by African-American slaves) was “without a doubt” his father’s favorite musical genre. “He seemed to be more passionate and at peace when he sang gospel.”he wrote in a text for ‘Where No One Stands Alone’, Elvis’ album of gospel recordings released posthumously.

In the 1972 documentary ‘Elvis On Tour,’ Elvis claimed that gospel was a constant source of comfort.

“We do 2 shows a night for 5 weeks (in Las Vegas),” he said. “Many times we go up and sing until dawn, gospel songs. we grew up with (the gospel). It kind of puts your mind at ease.”

In Peter Guralnick’s book, ‘Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley’, an account of his last 2 decades of life, it is said that his last months were spent almost alone, with the only company of a series of books by spirituality.

“All I want is to know the truth, to know and experience God”he once declared, according to Christian Today. “I am a seeker, that is my essence.”

“Isolation breeds drug abuse”asserted the late musician Tom Petty in HBO’s 2-part biographical documentary ‘Elvis Presley: The Searcher.’

“He must have felt very lonely, we know that. There is a point where you are successful and very rich, and there comes a day when you realize that none of it will make you happy. He knew he had to find something, but I think he gave up.”
