The supernatural mystery and crime drama coming to TV is “Dark Winds,” premiered Sunday, June 12 at 9pm ET / PT on AMC.

AMC has a reputation for prestige drama and its latest series, “Dark Winds,” appears to be following in those footsteps. Based on Tony Hillerman’s iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series, “Dark Winds” is a “noir thriller” set in the early 1970s, according to the AMC press release.

Set in 1971 in a remote Navajo Nation outpost near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zah McClarnon) as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. On this journey he is joined by his new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). Chee also has old bills to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the way to salvation.
The series co-stars Noah Emmerich as FBI Special Agent Whitover, Deanna Allison as Joe’s wife Emma Leaphorn, and Rainn Wilson as Devoted Dan, a faith-filled car salesman.
The first episode is titled “Monster Slayer” and its description reads: “Navajo tribal policeman Joe Leaphorn must solve a series of crimes; he teams up with new deputy, Jim Chee, who has returned to the reservation for the first time since he was a child; together they face the forces of evil, both earthly and supernatural ”.
Then on June 19th comes episode two, titled “The Male Rain Approaches”. His description reads: “Leaphorn and Chee interview the surviving witness to the Big Rock Motel murders; Chee meets the coroner; the cause of death remains a mystery; Sergeant Manuelito (Jessica Matten) makes a chilling discovery all about her. “
Episode three, “K’e” arrives on June 26th. Her description teases: “Leaphorn’s granddaughter celebrates her Kinaalda as Leaphorn retrieves the bodies of the murder victims. Meanwhile, Manuelito and Chee investigate the whereabouts of the missing Mormon family.
On July 3 comes the fourth episode, entitled “Hooghandi”. His description reads: “Leaphorn suspects that all crimes on the reservation are connected. There is a big break in the case. Leaphorn invites Chee to dinner. In the meantime, Manuelito makes a discovery all about him ”.
“Dark Winds” airs Sundays at 9:00 pm Eastern and Pacific time on AMC.
