At number 62 rue Armand-Caduc in La Réole (Gironde), hides a very beautiful building, which Sylvie Minot bought in 2020 with Marie-Hélène Massé. A spacious house, with a cellar of around 54m2 overlooking the garden.

Sylvie found it a shame not to take advantage of this space to do something with it.

At the same time, she had noticed that there were many pilgrims who stop at La Réole, a town on the way to Santiago de Compostela.

Sylvie Minot says:

Based on this observation, I wanted to make a welcome for pilgrims, because that does not exist in La Réole.

The machine was launched, work began for a period of a year and a half.

The welcome for pilgrims, Dortart 62 officially opened its doors in June 2022.

We had to create a bathroom, a toilet, bring in the electricity, level the floor…

On entering the property, a small window reveals a corridor leading to a bedroom with four single beds, a shower, a toilet and a sink area.

Cocooning and industrial at the same time, Sylvie Minot had fun with the layout of the room and the decoration.

For example, she wanted to keep the spirit of a cellar, in the light switches, industrial-style wall sconces, copper tubes to hide the cables, and these were used to make the shower column. Finally, in the corner for washing hands, Sylvie Minot wanted to reproduce the spirit of washbasins in schools, with a large common bin.

There is also a summer kitchen if ever people want to cook themselves.

When the project was born, I already knew what I wanted. I had the memory of the Guest House of Thailand.

In this reception, Sylvie Minot wishes to offer a moment of sharing and conviviality to the guests. “Living an extra adventure, not a business. I have traveled a lot by backpack abroad and I have also done treks, I want to offer something pleasant for people in search of performance, or even spirituality. »

Open all year round, for one night or more, Sylvie also offers meals and/or breakfast if needed.

It indicates:

We always take a little time to chat with people, sometimes we can talk over a meal, if they want.

For a first season, Sylvie saw around fifty pilgrims pass through her receptionand mainly from abroad.

It is Marie-France who takes care of the association of pilgrims at the level of the presbytery who takes care of sending the pilgrims back to Sylvie to welcome them. This is often also the case for the tourist office or the town hall.

Dortart 62 is open primarily to pilgrims, but Sylvie can also welcome cyclists or other people during events such as the All Saints fair, the Millésime festival, etc.

“It’s really a project that brings more to La Réole, we contribute to the development of the city, we are there to help the city”, underlines Sylvie Minot.
