Festival Al Este: independent cinema returns in person and virtually

The Al Este film festival, recognized for presenting a large selection of independent films, returns with a face-to-face edition that will also have a virtual reach throughout Peru. There are 63 films that will be part of the cinephile meeting, among which “Drive my Car” (winner of the oscars 2022 for best foreign film), “Mutzenbacher” (winner of a Golden Bear in Berlin) and “Of all the things that must be known”, a Peruvian film that pays homage to Cesar Vallejo.

In addition, the award-winning “Magnetics Beats” (Cannes Film Festival) and “Il Buco” (venice festival). Completing the selection, among others, are “The Island”, by renowned director Anca Damian; “The Worst Person in the World”, considered one of the best films of 2021; and the critically acclaimed “Bergman Island” and “Titane.”

Face-to-face and virtual functions

The novelty of this edition of the Al Este festival is its hybrid format. To the face-to-face functions that will be held in various rooms such as Cineplanet, the French Alliance, the Robles Godoy Room, the Julieta Theater, the MAC and the CCPUCP; More than 50 films will be accessible through the elekran.com platform (tickets can be purchased on that same page in presale until May 26).

Buying in pre-sale, the public from all regions of Peru will be able to access films from the Official Al Este Competition, the Itinerant Competition, the Emerging Peru Short Film Competition and the ExperientAl Este Short Film Competition for 39 soles. Tickets will then continue to be on sale at 49 soles until the end of the festival.

Classes with film directors

As part of the Al Este festival, filmmakers Damian Haunch (Romania), Michelangelo Frammartino (Italy) and ruth beckerman (Austria) will each offer a masterclass via Zoom. Tickets are on sale at Joinnus and the classes will be given live, with simultaneous translation. Romanian filmmaker Anca Damian. She is a director, screenwriter and producer. Her second feature film, the animated documentary, Crulic: The Path to Beyond (2011, Cristal Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival (France)) was selected at more than 150 international festivals, such as Locarno IFF, Telluride, New Director New Films, and has received more than 35 international awards. His films were distributed all over the world and have been awarded numerous international awards, including the Best Director Award in Warsaw, the Mirada International Award in Madrid and the Eurimages Audentia Award. Masterclass with Michelangelo Frammartino (Special Prize, Venice 2021)

Michelangelo Frammartino made his first film, I donate (2003), without a budget, and premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. It won the Grand Prize at the Annecy Italian Film Festival (France) and the Jury Prize in both Thessaloniki and Warsaw.
