Episcopal ordination. Perugia welcomes Don Ivan. The day live with La Voce and Umbria Radio

The episcopal ordination of Don Ivan Maffeis, the new bishop of Perugia – Città della Pieve, with the simultaneous taking of canonical possession of the archdiocese, takes place on Sunday 11 September 2022 in the cathedral of San Lorenzo.

10 am – Entry into the territory of the diocese from Monte Corona

Don Maffeis enters the diocesan territory in Monte Corona, municipality of Umbertide, the first parish he meets on the way to the cathedral church.

11 am – A Perugia first stop in Prepo with young people

The elected archbishop reaches the “San Giovanni Paolo II” inter-parish pastoral unit complex in Prepo-Ponte della Pietra-San Faustino in Perugia. He meets young people from parishes, oratories and lay associations and movements. He listens to some questions from the young people and talks to them.

12 o’clock – Lunch at the Village of Charity with the poor

Don Maffeis goes to the headquarters of the diocesan Caritas “Village of Charity – Sister Providence”, where some sign-works are located. He meets the volunteers and guests of the Village. The elected archbishop dines with them at the “Don Gualtiero” canteen.

3 pm – In Piazza IV Novembre, greetings from the city authorities and the faithful

In Piazza IV Novembre, on the steps of the town hall of the Priori, the elected Bishop Ivan Maffeis receives the greetings of the representatives of the civil institutions of the Umbrian capital.

4 pm – Episcopal ordination in the Cathedral

There liturgy of episcopal ordination is broadcast live on the frequencies of Umbria Radio and in live video On the canal YouTube de The voice and on television TefChannel.

The elected archbishop enters the cathedral of San Lorenzo from the door of Piazza IV Novembre. In the Cathedral after paying homage to the relic of Sant’Anello and the effigy of the Madonna delle Grazie, he gathers in prayer in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. Then he joins the concelebrants who cross piazza IV novembre in procession from the cloister of San Lorenzo and enter the Cathedral from the entrance of piazza Danti.

The rite of episcopal ordination

The rite (here the explanation of the Rite) is presided over by cardinal Gualtiero Bassett with-consecrating Msgr. Lauro Tisiarchbishop of Trento, and Msgr. Marco Salvi, bishop and diocesan administrator, and concelebrants numerous archbishops and bishops, and diocesan and religious priests. At the end of the liturgy, Bishop Maffeis received sacred relics as a gift from his diocese of origin, as a sign of communion between the two churches, that of Trento and that of Perugia-Città della Pieve (Here the coat of arms and gifts to the Bishop).

The faithful who are unable to access the cathedral can follow the celebration from the large screens set up in Piazza IV Novembre and in the Sala dei Notari of Palazzo dei Priori, kindly granted by the Municipality of Perugia. Overall, more than a thousand seats are planned in compliance with the anti-Covid1 regulations in force.
