For the first time in the review of modern and contemporary music Traiettorie arrives on October 19 at 20:30 at the Casa della Musica in Parma L’arsenale Ensemble, a group founded in 2005 in Treviso by young musicians and composers under the artistic-musical direction of Filippo Perocco.
The ensemble’s artistic project is based on a strong mix of composition and performance, which means space for commissions to young composers and close collaboration with other institutions, soliciting musical investigations on the particular timbre of the ensemble (saxophone, guitar, piano, accordion , voice, electronics). In addition to the concert activity in the main musical institutions and festivals, the ensemble organizes its own review in Treviso, L’arsenale_Nuova Musica, which also includes seminars, masterclasses and a composition competition. In 2011 and 2012 he received the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Grant-in-Aid.
In this key L’arsenale (Ilario Morciano, saxophone; Carlo Siega, electric guitar; Igor Zobin, accordion; Roberto Durante, piano; Livia Rado, soprano and Filippo Perocco conducting) presents a program that is largely Italian and of very recent production, between 2014 and 2018, just the homage of this edition to the contemporary music of our country, in which the common thread can be a very strong sense of spirituality, sentiment, emotional expression, but also of carnality and matter.
In this sense, here is the evocation of absence – the text is by Nerval – in “Rizoma I” (2016) by Stefano Pierini for soprano, saxophone, accordion, electric guitar, piano and electronics; but there are also the most sensual identification with the poetic text: the lines of Jolanda Insana in “Assetata still” (2015) by Giuliano Bracci for soprano, saxophone, accordion, electric guitar and piano, and those of Zanzotto in “of this »(2015) by Silvia Borzelli for soprano, saxophone, accordion, electric guitar, piano. To these three pieces, commissioned by the arsenal, are added the dreamlike journey of “Velo” (2014) by Filippo Perocco for soprano, saxophone, electric guitar, accordion, piano and resonator, born as a piece for the silent film “Nosferatu” by Mornau; and the tormented religiosity of “Pater noster” (2018) by Marco Quagliarini for soprano and accordion.
The only exceptions – of nationality but not of spirit – to this team of fresh Italian compositions are another piece born from a collaboration of L’arsenale, “Susurro” (2013) for soprano and electronics by the Peruvian Juan Arroyo, which alludes to aphasia of sadness; and “De profundis” (1978) by one of the most important post-war composers, Sofia Gubaidulina, from which emerges the religious and ethical charge that Gubaidulina has always opposed to Soviet ideology: the deaf and percussive accordion slowly becomes clearer up to range in the most acute regions of sound and light.

The realization of Traiettorie, partner of Italiafestival, is possible thanks to the support of: Ministry of Culture, Emilia-Romagna Region, Municipality of Parma, House of Music of Parma, Monumental Complex of Pilotta, University of Parma, “A. Toscanini ”, Monteparma Foundation, Cariparma Foundation, Chiesi Farmaceutici, Nuovi Mecenati Foundation – Franco-Italian Foundation to support contemporary creation, Symbolic, Hotel Sina Maria Luigia, MACROCOOP – Communication services.
