CENTRO SERVIZI CULTURALI S. CHIARA * “THEATER TURNED UP“: «THE PASSO DEL BREATH”, THE NEW PROJECT INSPIRED BY MOUNTAIN SONGS, (FRIDAY 8 JULY

16.19 – Tuesday 05 July 2022

The Upside Down THEATER – THE CITY ON SCENE, the summer season organized by the Centro Servizi Culturali S. Chiara at the Teatro Sociale, continues on Friday 8 July (at 9 pm) with an appointment halfway between theater and music.

The Breath Pass, this is the title of the theatrical project inspired by mountain songs created by OHT [Office for a Human Theatre]/ Davide Tomat with Maestro Luigi Azzolini and the Sass Maor Choir

Singing is a production of bodies that emit sound when they breathe; bodies that are always immersed in a landscape which in turn informs the songs, animating them with its rhythms and narrations. Singing thus becomes the breath of life in the landscape.

Gained from the experience of the opera 19 July 1985, the first collaboration between OHT (research studio of the theater director and curator Filippo Andreatta) and the composer and musician Davide Tomat, the project, under the direction of the choir master Luigi Azzolini, starts from a selection of fragments of traditional mountain songs, repeated and intersected with each other.

Portions of choirs follow one another in a game of cross-references, cuts and repetitions that blur the contours of the individual pieces to form a single sound track that harmonizes with the Alpine landscape. A dreamlike and spiritual dimension of listening, close to the enjoyment of ambient electronic music, totally acoustic, immersed in the sound of nature.

The most intense and airy moments of the mountain songs alternate with more delicate, almost liturgical and spiritual passages; the harmonizations of the choir are worked in real time by Davide Tomat through resonant filters, reverberations and echoes in order to create phase differences and amplify their progressive growth.

A sound architecture that breathes with the mountain and its transcendental status, giving life to a mantric and circular experience.

Founded in 2008, OHT [Office for a Human Theatre] is the research studio of theater director and curator Filippo Andreatta, whose work deals with landscape and personal politics subtly addressed in public and private space.

OHT has collaborated nationally and internationally with, among others, La Serre Arts Vivants (CA), the Venice Biennale, Haydn Stiftung Foundation, I Teatri Reggio Emilia foundation, Short Theater festival, Romaeuropa festival, Triennale Teatro Milano, the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation (USA), Whitechapel Gallery London (UK), Italian Cultural Institute of Vienna (AT) and MAXXI museum of 21st century arts Rome (IT). Finally, Centrale Fies is a regular partner of various projects, both for productions and debuts and, for the two-year period 2021-22, OHT is an associate artist of the CSC S. Chiara di Trento.
OHT has been awarded for artistic excellence, with prizes such as New Sensitivities for young theater directors (2008), Movin’Up award for young artists (2016 and 2017), OPER.A 20.21 Fringe (2017) and a nomination for Best Scenic Design at UBU awards (2018).
