With time to read? Here are the recommendations of Mons. Munilla

The list of recommended readings of the bishop of Orihuela-Alicante, for the summer period, is already a tradition.

Newsroom (07/05/2022 15:41, Gaudium Press) Ya is tradition the list of recommended readings of Mons. José Ignacio Munilla, bishop of Orihuela-Alicante, Spain, for each summer period. There are 30 books, according to the list presented by Religion En Libertad, on various Christian topics, such as Prayer, Spirituality, Hagiographies, etc.

We have chosen one of each topic of those presented by the prelate, who is taken as a reference by many, among other reasons for his defined presence in social networks and its wide culture.

Prayer

Bishop Munilla recommends, among others, the book Worship in the heart of the world, of Bishop Dominique Rey, Bishop of Toulon. “Can you say something new and relevant about the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament? Archbishop Dominique Rey shows us with his book that there is a huge space for reflection on Jesus in custody”, expresses the review of the work, prepared by Ediciones Cor Iesu.

Spirituality

Among the recommended works of spirituality, there is a version of the Rialp del Treatise on prayer and meditation of San Pedro de Alcantara, which is now in its fifth edition. “Meditation is the means to reach contemplation. Although the path is hard and requires effort, the fruit obtained by those who practice it is great. After weighing the advantages of it, the author offers two series of meditations for each day of the week on faith and the Passion of Christ ”, reads the book review.

In the section of hagiographiesMons. Munilla recommends a work on one of the most interesting characters that have circulated in the Vatican palaces in our days. It is about “The Angel of the Vatican – Spiritual Writings of Cardinal Merry del Val”. The nickname of Angel of the Vatican was placed in Rome itself, to this Spaniard with English blood. The body of the one who was Secretary of State of Saint Pius X “rests in the Crypt of the Popes in the Vatican Grottoes, he being the only cardinal among all the sovereign pontiffs”. “His prayers, letters, meditations, talks, speeches and conferences speak to us of the love of God and bring us closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to which he was very devoted, and to the Virgin Mary, to whom he consecrated himself as a Servite tertiary, and of which he would say: “Glorious things will be said of us before the throne of God. María will tell them» ”, expresses the review.

On the topic of Familyrecommends Mons. Munilla among others Of books, parents and children – A guide to turning children and adolescents into enthusiastic readers, authored by Miguel Sanmartín Fenollera. “This book offers an elaborate reading guide for children and adolescents. It includes great books of all time, and also others that contribute to the love of reading not being shipwrecked by the first waves”, says the review of the publisher, which is also Rialp.

On Christian Formation, the former bishop of San Sebastián recommends Compassion – A Story, by the author Manuel Alejandro Rodríguez de la Peña. It is a work that “attempts to make intelligible the moving ethical heroism of so many thousands of human beings who did good in “hellish” situations throughout history”, according to CEU Ediciones.

About History we allow ourselves to repeat two works recommended by the Basque prelate. Is about Elcano, trip to historywritten by Tomás Mazón Serrano, who “through chronicles, reports and other files written five hundred years ago”, immerses the reader in the “epic journey, full of dangers, sacrifices and threats, but also of courage, honor and great skill” carried out by this Spanish sailor together with Magellan, being the first to go around the world through its seas. And a book that will certainly continue to help us exorcise the anti-Spanish black legend, Luces de la Hispanidad – The valuable Spanish footprint in America, a fertile legacy .

In matters of art the Spanish Bishop has only one recommended, and it is Saint Francis in the Prado Museum, which is “a kind of Franciscan pilgrimage through the halls of one of the most famous museums in the world”, according to the PPC review.
