The Christ of Light rests on the snow: this is how winter is announced in Junín de los Andes

The Christ of Light seems ready to make little angels in the snow. On the slopes of Cerro de la Cruz in the Neuquén town of Junín de los Andes, the “Christ Light” of 52 meters long and 42 wide appears lying on it. At the culminating point of the religious and tourist itinerary “Via Christi”, the work of the architect, sculptor and plastic artist, Alejandro Santana, these days Christ dressed in winter.

This enclosure, which can be entered through the neck of the sculpture or through the wound in its side, is 10 meters high at its highest point.

This sculpture represents a figure that crosses the slope of the hill and is in communion with the gaze that the peoples of America have on the Pachamama or Mother Earth.

The sculpture, which is illuminated at night, creates a hypnotic effectdominates from the heights the city of Junín de los Andes, known for the spirituality that gives it the location of the sanctuaries to Blessed Laura Acuña and Ceferino Namuncurá.

A few blocks from the center of Junín de los Andes, this Vía Christi (Way of Christ) theme park represents the life of Jesus Christ and other cultures such as the Mapuche. There are a total of 23 stations that tell of the life, death and resurrection of Christ embodied in the reality of all peoples and all times.

The stations are made of concrete on a 12-meter-diameter floor with different designs from pre-Columbian cultures, where ffigures of contemporary characters, of the common man, and of divinities of all faiths.

This gigantic work is open to the public from 8 to 20. General admission: $400.
