Los Talleres hosts the first edition of the Crossing Borders dance event

With the participation of the German visual artist Wolfgang Scholz, L’Alvear Colectivo de Artes Escénicas, from Ecuador, Sandra Soto from Jalisco and Antares Danza Contemporánea, from Hermosillo, Sonora, the season takes place from August 26 to September 25. International Dance Crossing Borders, at the Los Talleres Cultural Center.

The impossibility of reaching home, the division due to political and religious power, the formation of the universe according to the Popol Vuh and the disturbing confrontation with the body are themes that the proposals of the participants address.

Multimedia dance, theater dance, butoh dance and contemporary dance make up the first edition of Crossing Borders.

This Friday the season began with the premiere of the choreography Uncertainty, in which state and national boundaries are crossed, and the diversity found within some barriers and others is just as enriching.

Uncertainty stems from the reflection on the search and the arrival at home, an arrival that becomes almost impossible. The proposal of the German painter, photographer and filmmaker Wolfgang H Scholz (Dresden, 1958) will be interpreted by Isabel Beteta, who dances while a couple of videos are projected.

It consists of six acts: desire, encounter, discovery, habit, destruction and loss. For Scholz, as for the Buddhists, the only constant in our existence is change.

The idea that to start is to die is another of the topics addressed Uncertainty, To which are added questions about where we are and how we can check if this is reality.

The work, by Sic! Film Art Productions, which founded and directs Scholz, has today the last of three screenings, at 6:00 p.m., at Los Talleres (Francisco Sosa 29, Coyoacán).

L’Alvear Performing Arts Collective will present Passion, that raises other views about the great story of the crucifixion of Jesus, as part of the Judeo-Christian religion, and its strong cultural roots.

Registered in the theater dance genre, Passion contemplate the power and the people as characters in this story along with Mary Magdalene, Mary the Mother and Jesus. The piece, where the spoken word strengthens the message that each one gives, will be presented from September 2 to 4.

The intention of Laura Alvear, director of the group with more than 40 years of experience as a performer, choreographer and teacher, including her role as a dancer with the Ballet Teatro del Espacio in Mexico, is to give a current nuance to this topic.

The creator delves into the spirituality of each human being and presents political and religious power as the one that divides, the one that has constantly led humanity to be crucified and put to extremes of violence until it reaches war.

In Cruzando Fronteras, the dancer and choreographer from Jalisco Sandra Soto will offer the program U QUX CAH Heart of heaven, solo butoh dance piece inspired by the Popol Vuh, sacred book of the Mayan-Quiche tradition, which recreates the formation of the universe.

It features live music, by Santiago Maisterra, and is divided into five parts: The empty sky, Germen del agua, They listened to ancestral thought, The darkness and creation, and Hurricane, in which improvisation plays an important role. , as it will be seen from September 9 to 11.

The season closes with performances by Antares Danza Contemporánea, from Hermosillo, Sonora, under the artistic direction and choreography of Miguel Mancillas, with Antares, pieces to assemble, choreographic study that includes fragments of works from the group’s repertoire, such as sky in red (2003), We will make the clouds (1998), before the silence (2000) and On hold… (1999) and Iago’s eye(2006).

This program, which will take place from September 23 to 25 and includes video projections, is an approach to the human despite the fact that the confrontation with the body is disturbing. The work is based on the conviction that art always generates growth and is his way of celebrating life.
