Cardinal Poli: “The suffocating inflation in Argentina makes bread unaffordable and generates misery”

The Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Primate of Argentina, mario polireceived the pilgrims in the Sanctuary of San Cayetano, patron saint of bread and work.

He assured that those who arrived there know that, although many doors were closed to them, those of the Sanctuary are opened to meet the patron who intercedes before Jesus so that all receive the material and spiritual graces.

And who is my neighbor?

The Cardinal referred to the parable of the Good Samaritan, the reading of the day that recounts an act of violence, “and it never ceases to surprise us, because it resembles what happens daily in our neighborhoods.” The character is an ordinary man who takes what is necessary for the trip, believed in God and practiced his faith. He manages to see the lying body of a fellow man, he approached and committed himself. Then came the delicate gestures for the disgraced stranger. He prioritized what he considered urgent: he put himself at the service of his fellow man.

“The Samaritan was carried away by the first feeling of the heart, which is good, free and supportive, without calculations or turns,” said the archbishop. He treated the stranger with a golden rule in human relations that Jesus left us in the Gospel (Mt 7,12). He found that person with vital signs and put himself at the service of the right to life.

“Let us allow ourselves to be challenged by the parable, capable of revealing the solidarity and fraternal attitudes that allow us to rebuild this Argentina that hurts us all“.

solidarity look

Poli pointed out that the example of the Good Samaritan gives us a solidary look at reality, not to shock us, but to move us and commit us. Meanwhile, we ask for our daily bread as Jesus taught us, that “Daily it becomes more unattainable because of the suffocating inflation that we suffer and that generates misery”.

He also questioned: how not to think about the growing number of siblings who come daily to the dining rooms, in older adults who cannot buy their medicines, in families whose income is increasingly insignificant?. He reaffirmed what was recently said by the Executive Commission of the Argentine Episcopal Conference: “The bread that is requested for all, the one that is achieved with one’s own work, is a cry for justice.”

The Archbishop of Buenos Aires paraphrased Pope Francis in Fratelli Tutti, who pointed out that «Faced with so much pain, before so much wound, the only way out is to be like the good samaritan».

The anonymous “Cayetanos”

The Cardinal acknowledged the presence of many anonymous ‘Cayetanos’, who They don’t pass by the pain of those who are on the side of the road of life. We must thank heaven for the Samaritans of our day who share their time and assetsand without measuring sacrifices, and renew in the social body the longing for happiness that God has placed in the heart of every human being.

“When we pass in front of the image of San Cayetano, let us trust our needs and let’s not forget to pray for the homeland of all. He, from the communion of saints, has always been present in the difficult moments of our national history and remains faithful and solicitous as a good Samaritan attentive to the happiness of his friends, ”said the archbishop.

Finally, he pointed out that the faithful also seek the eyes of the Virgin of Luján and ask for her maternal blessing. She knows about pain and is a mother who is supportive and close to the suffering of her children.
