World Bread Day, very satisfactory balance sheet

World Bread Day was “celebrated” last Sunday. And Altamura was the protagonist thanks to the initiative of the Consortium for the protection and enhancement of the Altamura bread a Dop (protected designation of origin). The balance drawn up by President Lucia Forte is very satisfactory. A lot of curiosity – with souvenir photos and selfies – attracted the artistic installation by Vito Maiullari with a column of bread, almost 4 meters high, on a stone base in which wool was also attached. In the author’s philosophy, Altamura was represented with the “3 Ps” of identity: bread, sheep, stone. It should be noted that the exhibitions at the Palazzo Santa Croce (former monastery) in the historic center are still open until the end of October.

Satisfaction among the leaders of the Consortium that had been working on the event for weeks, with the support of the Puglia Region, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Department and the Municipality of Altamura. “We are very happy with the success of a day which by its nature was the celebration of sharing values, as all the initiatives that enriched the program were full of references to the cultural, spiritual and religious traditions that bread evokes. The Altamura bread recipe has within it centuries of history and the deepest values of the Altamura and Apulian communities. This allows us to communicate with the world. “Seeing so many people in Altamura taking part in the events on the calendar moved us. It is the sign that there is a great desire to start afresh from bread as an element of communion. – commented the President Lucia Forte – and it is confirmation that the Consortium can and must play an increasingly important role as a driving force for the growth, including cultural growth, of the city. The Consortium, fulfilling its primary aims of promotion and enhancement (as well as protection), has the task of preserving the tradition, promoting its value under many aspects; looking to the future, through a path of evolution and production growth, entrepreneurial also marked by the values of sustainability, which allows us to keep up with the times that change and evolve quickly and which induces continuous listening and opening to the market. All moved by a single and important direction: to create added value equally distributed among all the players in the supply chain, identifying the consumer, the market, the community at the apex “.
