Why these 7 films were not released in other countries of the world?

Spider-Man No Way Home, Doctor Strange 2, The Eternals…this is why these movies weren’t released in China, Malaysia, Egypt, Qatar and other countries around the world.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have amassed nearly 1 billion in global box office revenue, but that’s without contributions from many countries. In effect, the movie has not been released in many other countries around the world. Unfortunately, this is somewhat what happens to marvel movies for a few years. A scene deemed obscene, an insulting reference, an irreverent remark, everything is a pretext for a ban. And several films have already been banned from release, whether in Asia, the Middle East and even in Africa. Here are 7 of these iconic works.

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness

One of best movies of the year at the global box office, Doctor Strange 2 will soon reach billions in revenue. He could have reached and exceeded it since, if he had been authorized to go out in other countries of the world. Unfortunately, this is not the case, for several reasons.

The movie of Sam Raimi was banned from entering several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, etc. And for good reason, 12 seconds conversation between two mothers of America Chavez, who is also there gay.

In China, the film could not be screened in theaters, but the reason is quite different. Not sure you’ve seen that reference anyway. When Strange and Chavez are walking the streets of New York, we see a symbol on a newsstand. This symbol refers to The Epoch Times. A newspaper opposed to the CCP and whose founders are members of the spiritual movement Falun Gong considered a perverse sect in China.

Spider-Man no Way Home

Very big success of Sony, the film unfortunately could not make recipe in the Middle Kingdom. And for good reason, the Statue of Liberty that we see appearing during the legendary fight on Liberty Island which brought together the three versions of Spider-Man.

For the Chinese authorities, the place granted to this statue was already too big and it was insult to the statebecause judged too patriotic. In concession, Sony was asked to delete the image. Something that the Japanese company refused to do. Then he was asked to make cuts. Despite several attempts, the production company did not follow up. As a result, the film was banned from being released in China. A shortfall that could still have propelled the film towards its 2 to 3 billion in revenue.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Everything was still green for this Marvel film to hit the land of Mao Zedong, notably with the Chinese-Canadian actor headlining. But for that, it was first necessary to obtain the exit visa. Something that the film was refused for several reasons.

Already before its release, the film on Shang-Chi had suffered numerous criticisms and accused of convey a bad image : that of the Chinese worshiping the martial arts. He is accused of fallacious reason for steal chinese money.

However, it was only mass before the hour. Later, an old interview of the lead actor resurfaces. Simu Liu criticized China in which his parents had grown up as a “Third World Country” where people were starving.

Finally, there is also the concept of Yellow Peril which is associated with Fu Manchu, the hero’s father in the comics. A reminder that the Chinese did not want. It was already enough for the film to be blacklisted.

The Eternals

This good film released in 2021 can today be considered a success. It had managed to register just over 400 million on its release, despite a difficult journey across the seas.

In China, the exit ban is in no way linked to the scenes, but rather to its director. A few years ago, Chloé Zhao said of China that it was a country where the lie was everywhere. A shocking declaration which means that his works are often banned in the country.

Moreover, in Qatar, Kuwait and even in Saudi Arabia, the release of the film was canceled a few days before being definitively banned. For good reason, Phastos’ family is gay.

Black Widow

Openly, Black Widow has not been banned from release in China. However, he did not obtain the exit visa (but that’s a ban too, isn’t it?). The film was simply (perhaps) the victim of a stroke of bad luck. Indeed, remember that the release of the film had been postponed several times, due to the COVID-19. But when it came to theatrical release, the Chinese market was not favorable to works made in the USA or from elsewhere. It was around the time of the 100th anniversary of the CCP. The Chinese government had instead decided to highlight the best national productions.

Daredevil

This film was not destined for fame! Many shortcomings have already tripped him up long before his release. First there is the awarding of the title from Matt Murdock to Ben Affleck. Which was not to the liking of the fans. Mark Johnson, the director, was just a novice at the time. Which did not inspire confidence.

However, the ban on the release of the film in Malaysia is rather due to a small detail: evil. This word in the name of the hero was not too pleasant for the authorities of the country. To reinforce their position, the film seemed to them too violent.

Dead Pool

The film about the big-mouthed mercenary had almost everything to deserve the ax of the Chinese. The latter considered it too violent, peddling vulgarity and exposing too much nudity. A film so complex that the directors were unable to respond to requests from the Chinese authorities: to cut the scenes indicated.
