If there is a series that divides at the moment, it is Virgin River! Real turnip in rose water for some; romantic story that makes others dream… In short, Netflix has once again hit the bullseye and as always season 4 has been in the Top 10 since its release in July 2022. But if there is one thing that puts everyone agrees, these are the breathtaking landscapes of the series!
Virgin River, the charming town star of the Netflix series
If the city makes the most romantic of us dream, you might as well break the spell now: Virgin Riverthis small remote town in California and close to Los Angeles, staged in the netflix series of the same name, does not exist. No need, therefore, to bring a map to try to locate it, or to locate it with your GPS.
Nevertheless, all the scenes shot outdoors were indeed shot in real landscapes, and not in studios reproducing natural landscapes. However, we are moving away from Southern California and its mild climate, since it is Canada that most of the scenes are shot! Since the beginning of the series, Vancouver is one of the favorite places for filmmakers, because it is full of water points and green nature, forests and mountains.

Does British Columbia speak to you? It is partly there that the Virgin River scenes were filmed, especially with regard to the exterior scenes.
- Snug Cove on Bowen Island
The streets of the city, the colorful houses or even the library were filmed there. Buildings that can also be seen in the credits of the series and which, as we can well imagine, must make the inhabitants of this small town adept at yoga and spirituality extremely proud who have seen an army of cameramen disembark storming their small town to film it from top to bottom overnight. Given how successful the series has been since then, they’ve had to get used to it since then, but while ‘snug’ means ‘cosy’ in English, it’s safe to say that’s a bit of a stretch!
It is in this park located north of Vancouver that is the cabin where most of the plot takes place: the one where Mel has lived since the beginning of the series. The one that Jack retypes when he arrives, and that they then share together. Built in 1950, it has been the location of numerous filmings for television series such as Once Upon a Time, The Flash, The Magician…
The Vernon medical office, in which we find the new handsome kid from Virgin River, really has something to amaze us! And for good reason, it is a mansion dating from 1889 which served as the setting. This is located in the city of New Westminster, and more specifically in the Queen’s Park area. But in reality, only the exterior was filmed for the series, as all scenes involving the inside of the cabinet are shot in the studio. Beware of the entourloupe!
This small town located about 60 km from Vancouver is known to be surrounded by mountains, lakes and forests, which has greatly appealed to producers. They particularly set their sights on the Watershed Grill and its exterior, located in the community of Brackendale in the north of the city, and which represents Jack’s famous bar, where his meeting with Mel takes place. In real life, it is outdoor sports enthusiasts who meet there to practice mountain biking, kitesurfing, kayaking, hiking or even swimming, while getting their fill and drinking a good cold beer to the health of Jack (who does not drink more if you have followed the series well).
These famous waterfalls that we see very often in the series are located in a beautiful park about 10 minutes from Squamish. They are 335 m high.
Impossible to think of Virgin River without thinking of Hope, the series’ main character. His house is in the city of Burnaby and it is even a listed house historical heritage of the city, since built in the middle of nature in 1912: the Edgar Residence, on the south shore of Deer Lake. It was in this same park that Paige’s food truck was located, which served pastries.
