Union of Writers of Monsignor Nouel: Perspective of a new directive 2022

Since September 5, 1997, in Bonao, the head municipality of the Monseñor Nouel province, there has been an entity that brings together the writers of that province. According to the parameters of time, said entity has accumulated something equal to, if not more than, about 25 years of existence, or a time equivalent to two generations. In this time, to have an idea, all the pioneers have already passed away, among other icons; Professor Rafael Guaroa Moreta, -its ideologue in suggesting its creation and acting for its constitution-, the old Jillo, by his proper name, Egidio Velásquez Sosa, Professor Marino García, Doña Carmen García Vda. Rosario, Héctor Bueno, among others who paved the way for its foundation. And it must be said, of which we cannot be sure if they achieved their dreams that they cherished in being pioneer members of the institution before they died. Apparently, according to their constant lamentations and complaints, their dreams were unfinished, regarding the perspectives that were forged for the institution. What is known is that many dreams of publishing jewels of books have been left on the shelves as a great debt.

And it should be said, in our opinion, there would be few towns in the Dominican Republic that have a nucleus of this literary nature. From the 90’s, it seems that it has a stigma marked with the ghost of impotence of having become the vehicle of protection for writers. An issue that can be seen in the low presence of its members in acts of publication of works and other protections for its members.

However, having the category of member of the Uemon means a great social, cultural and, above all, literary ladder, and at the same time, grants an elitist distinction of intellectual roots. However, it seems that something has failed in the leadership of the institution, since despite the excellence that being a member of the institution means, it seems to us that there is a profound lack of enthusiasm and sense of belonging- and that can be seen in the lack of presence of the members-, at the moment of supporting the acts in which the name of the Union is involved- that in most cases, the entity has assumed, passive role type moral support, translated to lend the name to that the members of said entity set up their circulation. And no big difference when it comes to other activities that Uemon has assumed as its own or its initiative.

Regarding the strangeness of the lack of support, we allow ourselves to review -at least as far as the directors have believed- that it is not possible to explain the phenomenon that with the high level of social, cultural and, above all, literary positioning of the province, that our opinion generates belonging to their payroll, almost at the level of social elite, the members show so much indifference and detachment to the entity. And as it is appreciated that many of the citizens who have obtained that step of distinction, we do not appraise its dimension in its fair measure. What in this sense, we as an observer of the social behavior of individuals always conclude that in the face of a phenomenon of this nature, the explanation of disaffection and low group identity must prevail, which could be justified in a low satisfaction of the actors themselves. that despite being a member of the most exalted literary institution in the environment, they have not seen their expectations of approaches, institutionality and representation of tangible achievements satisfied -with their honorable exceptions-, that raise the pride of belonging. In this sense, I allow myself, on behalf of the so-called new management team that we lead as a proposal to direct the destinies of Uemon for the period 2022-2024, in response to what was said above, outline the conceptual foundation on which rests our interest, let’s see:

In the first place, we start from the criterion of an institutional relaunch in which we can overcome the difficulty of guaranteeing legal personality to the entity. This is to incorporate once and for the whole union, so that you can enjoy the benefits derived from Law 122-05 that regulates the institutions of the nature of the Uemon. But in addition, our interest tends to guarantee a greater social empowerment of literary and cultural leadership, that is, to mark the line of dignity of our most deeply rooted institution from the literary perspective of the province.

Therefore, our approach to the future of the Union of Writers of Monsignor Nouel is to complete what is still missing to empower the institution. Therefore, we base our approach on this statement of principle. Namely:

Our proposal is born in a stellar moment of the social, literary and cultural reality of the country, to which our Monsignor Nouel province does not escape, a circumstance in which writers as leaders of references for the construction of social conscience, we must redouble efforts to every day more to be the sentinels of our society, which suffers a great moral, cultural crisis, detachment from reading, lack of patriotic love, supplanting our cultural roots and rude manifestation of the cult of social anti-values ​​and above all, human degeneration.

Therefore, as the leading entity of social formation through literature, now more than ever, our country and duty, demands that we become literary sentinels and that we exhibit the iron armor of the will to build the intellectual wall that does not allow our identity, our values ​​and the memory of our ancestors to be supplanted by the chaos, the trivialities and the transculturation that is currently burying our human dignity by cults and irreverent manifestations that disrupt our cultural heritage, our linguistic strength and above all, our identity values.

Therefore, nothing better than a literary institution focused on its role, which would guarantee to raise the spirituality and critical and responsible consciousness of our people. In effect, at the time of this approach, we adhere to defend the mission of being the entity with the greatest roots and receptivity of literature and writers, becoming the entity with the greatest leadership and respect in the discipline of cultivating letters in our country. social environment. Furthermore, we embrace the vision of becoming the literary organization with the greatest respect, admiration and reference as an instrument of literature, social cohesion among its members, as well as being the channel for the intellectual development of our society. And the same, as values, we assume, solidarity and commitment, as well as the principle of unity and social cohesion, respect, ethics and morality, commitment to ethical literature and formative value.

In this sense, our programmatic approach is oriented towards the following:

  1. Raise the pride of belonging of our members in being literati through institutional strengthening.
  2. Create the provincial prize for literature “Indio del Bonao”.

I: Promote the national day to put the following in the central government folder:

1) Regional Prize for Literature and headquarters of the Book Fair of this nature.

2) Fight for the creation of a patrimonial fund from the national budget for the publication of works from the provinces.

3) Present a state pension program for writers who reach the dimension of renowned, outstanding in the discipline.

II: Immediate commitments:

1) Promote acts of putting into circulation books by writers from the province with Uemon as sponsorship manager.

2) Create the Cacique Maguá literary proclamation as an alert and claim instrument in the face of any social event that impacts the culture, human dignity and literature of our province or the country.

3) Create the Morrocoy de Bonao award for best published work.

4) Make agreements with bookstores and businesses to place “Bonao books” on a stand

III: Create by appointment of the directive:

3.1: Sections abroad of UEMON. The same for Maimón and Piedra Blanca.

3.2: Create workshops and literary seminars, at least one each year.

3.3. Institutionalize the annual celebration of the day of the poet. As well as, Christmas home sharing or patriotic celebration.
