The “Campaniliana”, a national theater and literature review, returns to Velletri with a renewed format for the sixth edition. Also this time the organization is at the expense of City of Velletri Art & Culture Participatory Foundationdirected by James Zito, with the patronage of the Municipality of Velletri and the collaboration of the Achille Campanile Fund. The event will take place on 28, 29 and 30 October 2022 between House of Cultures and Music and the Artemisio-Volonté Theatre. Theatrical performances, conferences, shows, the announcements of the prize and contest winners among the many innovations put in place by the Scientific Committee, made up of Giacomo Zito, actor, voice actor and director as well as artistic director of the Foundation, Rocco della Cortejournalist and writer, Gaetano Campanileson of the author and referent of the Fund.
TRIBUTE TO THE MASTER BELL TOWER
Achilles Campanile (1899-1977) was a journalist, playwright, writer, literary critic. His production is rich and his style is unmistakable, with great attention paid to the word in its thousand facets. An author who characterized the twentieth century, leaving neither the critics nor the public indifferent, who continue to appreciate and read him over the years (as witnessed by the continuous reprints by BUR Rizzoli of all the titles of the Roman master). In the last years of his life he decided to “escape” from the city and settled with his family between Lariano and Velletri, in the Castelli countryside, which were the inspiration for his last successful masterpieces.
NATIONAL THEATER AWARD
The deadline for sending the scripts participating in the collateral prize to the review closed in July. The National Theater Award “Achille Campanile” as every year, it is open to all unpublished humorous texts in Italian and 58 scripts were received in this edition, through a completely renewed online procedure. A figure that represents an increase compared to 2021 (+8 works arrived), a sign that the trend of the Prize is constantly growing and evolving.
CONTEST FOR ACTORS AND COMPANIES
Friday 28th October at 9.00 pm at the Artemisio-Volonté Theater, in addition to the official inauguration, the first edition of the contest for actors and companies will be celebrated “Golden bell”. The first ten entries to the contest will compete in a crackling evening, staging texts by Achille Campanile on the Veliterno stage. A quality jury made up of journalists, actors and insiders and a popular jury (which will have 60% weight on the final result) will decide the winner of the prize, which consists of a small trophy and a sum of 500 euros. In the presence of the authorities and the Campanile family, the winner of the contest will be revealed at the end of the evening.
CONFERENCE-ENTERTAINMENT
Saturday 29th Octoberat 18.30, at the Casa delle Culture the Conference-show on contemporary humorous theatre. Readings by Achille Campanile, insights into the work, literary retrospectives will accompany the dialogue with the two guests: Sonia Barbadoro And John Scifoni. John Scifoni, actor and writer, playwright and TV host, took his first steps at the Academy making his film debut in “The best of youth” by Marco Tullio Giordana. Protagonist of numerous series and fiction, he recently played the role of very popular characters in “Doc. In your hands” with Luca Argentero, “Don Matteo”, “A doctor in the family”, “One step from heaven”, “A bullet in the heart”. In 2021 he also published his second novel, for Mondadori. Sonia Barbadoro she began her career as an actress at a very young age at the Sangallo Theater Center’s Acting School, directed by Saverio Marconi. In 1990 she graduated from the “Silvio D’Amico” National Academy of Dramatic Art in Rome and, three years later, she specialized at the International School for the Art of the Actor of San Miniato. Directed by the major Italian directors – Massimo Castri, Lorenzo Salveti, Massimiliano Farau, Giancarlo Sepe, Giuseppe Marini, Giancarlo Cobelli and Massimo Popolizio, among others – Sonia Barbadoro has trodden the most important Italian stages, ranging with versatility from comic to dramatic roles.
THEATER AND AWARDS
Sunday 30th October grand finale: al Artemisio-Volonté Theatre in the presence of the jurors Michele La Ginestra (actor and TV presenter), Emily Costantini (journalist of the “Corriere della Sera“), Luigi Pisani (actor and acting teacher), Arnaldo Colasanti (literary critic) and Gaetano Campanile the name of the winner of the VI edition of the “Achille Campanile” National Theater Prize will be revealed, who will win the check for 1000 euros made available by the Fondazione di Partecipazione Arte & Cultura Città di Velletri. Subsequently the company KA.ST of Caterina Guida, belonging to UILT (Italian Free Theater Union, for whose collaboration we thank the Regional President Stephanie Zuccari) will stage “My family online” by Joseph of Mercy, winner of the 2021 edition, directed by Carlo Cianfarini. Actors on stage will be Rossella Pantaleo, Antonio D’Onofrio, Demian Antonio Aprea. The scenography is curated by Angelo Larocca, the vector graphics are by Elena Larocca.
