The Augustinians “firmly” condemn the “coarse and offensive” expressions of the Elías Ahúja students

“This reprehensible fact in no way reflects the feelings and actions of the Colegio Mayor Elías Ahúja. The fraternal relations with the Colegio Mayor Santa Mónica and of the male and female students among themselves will continue since both institutions share the same Christian and Augustinian values”

The Order of Saint Augustine defends that the center, opened 53 years ago, “proposes to children and their families a stay in a center based on values, the same ones that come from the Declaration of Human Rights, the Christian message and the Augustinian spirituality”

The Order of Saint Augustine, which manages the Elias Ahuja Residence Hall, has condemned the behavior of young people who uttered macho shouts at the young women of the Santa Monica Schoollocated opposite, and have defended that this fact “does not at all reflect the feelings and actions” of the institution.

“This reprehensible fact in no way reflects the feelings and actions of the Colegio Mayor Elías Ahúja. The fraternal relations with the Colegio Mayor Santa Mónica and of the male and female students among themselves will continue since both institutions share the same Christian and Augustinian values” , reads the statement published by the Augustinians and collected by Europa Press.

In the note, the Order indicates that the Colegio Mayor Elías Ahúja “has come to the fore in the media for a fact that has nothing to do with what that institution is and wants to be” and cross out the words poured by the students of “profanity and offensive”.

As he points out, Elías Ahúja has already “firmly” condemned this behavior and has adopted “the appropriate measures”, among them, expel one of the students, carry out compulsory courses and voluntary work.

Faced with these facts, the Order of Saint Augustine defends that the center, opened 53 years ago, “proposes to the children and their families, the stay in a center based on values, the same ones that come from the Declaration of Human Rights, of the Christian message and Augustinian spirituality”.

“This entails, for those who enter the Colegio Mayor, –as they point out– a commitment to progressively adapt their way of being and acting according to these values“.

To do this, they point out that Elías Ahúja organizes a meeting at the beginning of the academic year in which students and their families participate and that, among the topics discussed is “the rules of coexistence, which are based on the values offered by the center”.

Friendship and collaboration with Santa Monica

In addition, it highlights “the trajectory of friendship and collaboration between the Colegios Mayores Elías Ahúja and Santa Mónica” that “has existed since the birth of both institutions, in 1969” and adds that “this relationship has been reinforced in recent years with the staging of a play in which boys and girls from both schools”.

Regarding the latest activities carried out jointly by both halls of residence, a gymkhana at the Elías Ahúja facilities, organized on September 8, and an excursion to the Escorial on September 24 stand out.

In this sense, they assure that this fact “in no way reflects the feelings and actions of the Colegio Mayor” and that “the fraternal relations with the Colegio Mayor Santa Mónica and of the male and female students among themselves will continue since both institutions share the same Christian and Augustinian values”.
