“Succession”, “The Last of Us”, “Wonderman”…: the 10 most anticipated series for 2023

1) SUCCESSION, season 4 – Spring – OCS

After a laborious start, the previous season of the favorite series of those who snub them had ended with a bang. The kiss of death given by the American media billionaire Logan Roy to his offspring reshuffles the cards and suggests a breathtaking sequel. Part of this new round will take place in Norway. Which is already chilling.

2) THE CROWN, season 6 – Late 2023 – Netflix

This time, for sure: after seven years of good and loyal service and six seasons, Netflix’s flagship series is bowing out. This final opus will open with Diana’s car accident in the Parisian Alma tunnel and will end with the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005. Elizabeth II will finally be able to rest in peace.

3) THE LAST OF US – Coming Soon

In a post-apocalyptic world, after an epidemic has ravaged civilization, a couple makes their way among hostile survivors. Among the best-selling video games in the world (37 million copies), The Last of Us is declined in series by Craig Mazin, creator of Chernobyl. It arrives January 15 on HBO Max in the United States. Regarding France, it could be on Prime Video, on an unknown date.

4) ALIEN – Coming Soon

She resisted for a long time but the mythical creature of Giger and Ridley Scott finally ravages the small screen. Screenwriter Noah Hawley (Fargo) will be at the helm with Scott serving as executive producer. The story will take place on Earth at the end of the 21st century. Produced by the American channels FX and Hulu, the series does not yet have a broadcaster in France. Like the Alien, we are already salivating very hard.

5) DUNE, THE SISTERHOOD – Coming Soon

Another HBO Max series (American streaming service scheduled to arrive in France in 2024) that we hope to discover this year on a local channel or platform.

Emily Watson (The Third Day) and Travis Fimmel (vikings) are in the cast of this prequel set some 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides.

6) WONDERMAN – Coming soon – Netflix

Bernard Tapie died in October 2021 and he already has his biopic on Netflix. It is Laurent Lafitte who interprets it alongside Fabrice Luchini, Ophelia Kolb and Hakim Jemili. The project focuses on the 70s-80s. Tristan Seguela (Doctor?) and Olivier Demangel (November, Black Baron) hold the pen and filming took place last spring.

7) ESTERNO NOTTE – Late March-early April – Arte

On March 16, 1978, Aldo Moro, head of the Italian Christian Democrats, was kidnapped by the Red Brigades. The government finds itself faced with a dilemma: should it accept negotiations or not give in? First serial foray for Italian director Marco Bellocchio. This fresco in six episodes was presented at the last Cannes festival.

8) LIAISON – February 23 – Apple TV+

Screenwriter Virginie Brac (gears) is at the controls of this thriller in six episodes with Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Peter Mullan, Gérard Lanvin or Irène Jacob. It will mix politics, espionage and romance. Apple announces a contemporary thriller in which the mistakes of our past pose a threat to our future “. A teaser blurry enough to get us excited.

9) BLACK HEARTS – February 3 – Prime Video

Before drawing Greek salad (Cedric Klapisch) and Alphonse (Nicolas Bedos), Prime Video attacks 2023 with this testosterone production which follows a group of French special forces deployed in Iraq on the eve of the battle of Mosul, in October 2016. Their mission? Exfiltrate the daughter and grandson of a French Daesh emir to force him to cooperate. Nicolas Duvauchelle, Tewfik Jallab and Thierry Godard will put on the rangers.

10) THE OUTREAU AFFAIR – January 17 – France 2

This series in four episodes returns to the legal fiasco with an original device. Reconstructions of the interrogations and testimonies of the main protagonists are filmed in a 1000 m2 studio with real actors and the participation of some of the protagonists of the case. The goal of France 2 is to understand how justice could have slipped to this point. Ours too.
