While a bilingual French / Breton section was scheduled to open in September 2022 at the Marie-Thérèse Prigent school in Plougasnou, the Academic Directorate of the National Education Services of Finistère announced at the start of the school holidays that the first class would not finally open at the start of the school year in September. A new criterion had just appeared: the need to have more than 8 registered students, precisely the number reached to date.

The municipality, the parents of pupils see their long preparatory work ruined, their expectations disappointed. The emotion is great, the anger too, because it is indeed a denial of speech. The administration highlights in particular the insufficient number of bilingual school teachers available. However, we learn at the same time that teachers with bilingual accreditation will be appointed next year to monolingual posts for administrative quibbles.

National Education does not give itself the means to achieve the objectives set by the 2022-2027 Convention on the languages of Brittany. Thus, several teachers who wish to train in Breton have been refused their training. There is reason to doubt EN’s goodwill with regard to the application of this Convention. the “mammoth” cynically continues its short-term management of ” resources “ which he has. After the salutary departure of Jean-Michel Blanquer, the rector of the Academy of Rennes remained in place; it is doubtful that the arrival of a new minister will solve all the problems, since the administration remains the strongest by its enormous power of inertia and its ideological orientation which is intrinsically harmful for our languages. Only a real decentralization of decision-making powers concerning education in Brittany will make it possible to best adapt to the demand of Breton women and men concerning the languages of Brittany.

The Pays de Morlaix et des monts d’Arrée section of the Breton Democratic Union supports the parents of pupils, teachers and the municipality of Plougasnou in their efforts to find a favorable outcome to this situation created by the institution. We call on Breton women and men and friends of the languages of France to sign the petition posted by parents on Change.org: and to put pressure on the administration, in particular via their elected representatives.

For the Pays de Morlaix and Monts d’Arrée section of the Breton Democratic Union / Unvaniezh demokratel Breizh,
