Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet prepares symphonic premiere of “Las moradas de Teresa”

Within the framework of the celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet of Asunción will perform on June 3 the symphonic premiere of “Las Moradas de Teresa”, with the special participation of the Spanish composer and director José Miguel Évora, who will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN), and the singer Gala Évora.

The work, based on the spirituality and life of Saint Teresa of Avilawill be presented at the Municipal Theater “Ignacio A. Pane” (Pdte. Franco and Chile) accompanied for the first time by a live orchestra and will also feature the participation of the actors Margarita Irún, José Luis Ardissone, Pedro Acosta and Ana Ivanova. The choir of the Cathedral of Asunción will also take part in the performance, Schola Cantorumdirected by Enrique Alfonso.

Miguel Bonin, director of the company, explained that this show will be the first of the three that are planned for this 2022 in order to celebrate the golden anniversary of the group founded first in 1971 as the Municipal Modern Ballet, by María Retivoff; and in 1972 as Municipal Classical Ballet, by Tala Ern de Retivoff.

The presentation of “Las Moradas de Teresa” involves about 170 people including dancers, musicians, actors, costume designer, set designer and producers. The dancers Maia Ayala, Sonia Soto, Giannina Fernández, Cristina Báez, Macarena Vallejo and Agustina Torres will alternate in the role of Santa Teresa. In the role of Christ will be Abel Rivarola, Ricardo Riveros and Juan José Núñez. The leading figures Pamela Giménez, Alejandra Acosta and Federico Fleitas will also be part of the cast.

The staging, developed with the advice of Father Casimiro Irala, is inspired by “Las Moradas del Castillo Interior” and shows the current Doctor of the Church and different stages of her life. The spirituality of the saint will be represented through an actress, a dancer and a singer.

The functions will be from June 3 to 7 and from June 10 to 12. Tickets are already on sale on the UTS Network at G. 35,000, G. 55,000 and G. 60,000.

Book, costume exhibition and more

Within the framework of the celebration of its 50 years, the BCMM also plans to present on August 2 the book “An army for Terpsichore. 50 years of trajectory of the Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet of Asunción”based on an investigation carried out by the Dr. Patricia Bonnin and a team from the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, Spain.

Also in that month, in Manzana de la Rivera, an exhibition of sets and costumes will be inaugurated, highlighting the work of artists such as Ricardo Migliorisi and Tessy Vasconcellos. The sample will be called “An open curtain. 50 years of scenery and costumes of the Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet”curated by designer Florencia Soerensen and Dr. Patricia Bonnin.

Also for August is scheduled the “Gala for the 50 years of the Municipal Ballet”, with dancers who belonged to the company and today dance abroad. Meanwhile, in October, the BCMM will stage “Swan Lake”with choreography by Mario Galizzi and leading national figures and guests.
