The long weekend of Ferragosto truly offers events for all tastes and all ages. They range from the culinary and religious traditions of village festivals to concerts of all kinds of music. The parties are on the coast but also in the hills, there is no shortage of tributes to the great musicians, shows, even for the little ones, and art to be admired in all its facets. Here are the appointments in the Cesena area from Friday to Monday.
Mid-August for all tastes, at Gatteo Irene Grandi
As always, Gatteo Mare prepares for the arrival of August 15th and does it in style by proposing a rich and exciting program: the concert of Irene Grandi on the ‘Io in Blues’ tour. Music and lots of fun, Sunday at the Rubicon Arena and at the end of the show, everyone on the beach with their noses upwards to admire the magical play of lights at the mouth of the Rubicon. In Cesenatico Ferragosto is celebrated in the name of tradition: the appointment with the Rustida organized and “cooked” by the fishermen and families of the Cesenatico Fishermen’s Cooperative is back, who will prepare the typical specialties of Cesenatico’s seafood cuisine such as stew of mussels and clams, mixed frying, spaghetti with clams. Then comes a characteristic sunrise in the free beach of the Levante pier, Monday, with the tribute to Enzo Jannacci brought to the shoreline by La Banda dell’Ortica: forty years of career summarized in an hour of concert overlooking the sea. During the day of August instead the procession with the statue of the Madonna will take place on the canal port: the statue will then be embarked on board the fishing boat Federica II for the blessing of the sea. A mid-August to live in the name of fun and catering also at Levante Park: Saturday dancing with Cinzia and Wilches Sunday with Lisa and Roby, Monday DJ Marco. He returns to Quarto di Sarsina until Monday in the square in the center of the town “A lake in celebration”: party with musical evenings and food stand with typical menu. A Mid-August of events in San Mauro Mare, which starts early on Saturday with the ‘Films in music’ concert dedicated to film soundtracks. Sunday dawn concert on the beach and in the evening Moka Club show and fireworks. Entertainment, music, bingo and shows, to live a Mid-August in the name of vivacity and lightheartedness also in Bagno di Romagna, in the square: a dip in the most beautiful Hollywood songs together with the Qaos group. the unique sound of the “Slavs very good people” and the singing competition “Agostonati Tale e what show”. Dawn of notes for the good morning of August on the riverbed of the Rubicone river for the Sweet Summer of Savignano: the Trio Dance of the Rossini Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert and at the end breakfast offered to all participants. For twenty-two years Borgo Sonoro has celebrated August 15 in Piazza Byron in Monteleone di Roncofreddo: this year the Neapolitans on stage Damadaka with their traditional southern music, the result of twenty years of research, enhancement and re-proposition of music, dances and songs of the oral tradition of Southern Italy, in particular of Campania.
Raoul’s summer
On 15 August, on the anniversary of the birth of Raoul Casadei between Cesenatico and Gatteo mare in piazza Romagna mia, the festival returns that has made smooth music the music of exchange, encounter, dialogue between distant worlds and cultures. The great Brazilian musician Toquinho will be the international guest of the first date of the Balamondo festival: the evening with the title “Raoul’s summer”dedicated to the Re del Liscio, will also see Mirko Casadei POPular Folk Orchestra on stage.
The Palio of donkeys
After two years of stop, the traditional historical re-enactment that for over half a century has characterized the second weekend of August in Alfero, the “Palio dei Somari”: the party, held on Saturday and Sunday, represents a village review, in a goliardic key, of the well-known Palio di Siena, but in this case the protagonist is the donkey, a notoriously stubborn animal, which every year does not fail to surprise the spectators, coming from all over to attend this fun event. The festival has the character of historical re-enactment, in fact this weekend the whole mountain village is wrapped in a medieval atmosphere with drapes on the windows, floats, parades in dresses and competitions.
In music
The second appointment of the second edition of ‘Un Fiume di Jazz’ is coming, the concert review in Savignano sul Rubicone in the location of the riverbed: on Friday the Silvia Valtieri Trio with a tribute to the American pianist Dave Frishberg. Second evening also for “The sounds of the spirit”, a review of spirituality in music and poetry, which on Friday will deal with an ancient myth, that of the Grail, read in the modern perspective of Thomas Stears Eliot’s poem, “The wasteland”, a poem published exactly one hundred years ago: during the Cesena evening Eliot’s voice will join those of poets and writers who have dealt with the theme of the Grail over the centuries. The music will be that of Nicoletta Noè, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. On Saturday the appointment of Sagge’s thirtieth anniversary are the muses, the summer cultural review organized by the Tito Balestra Foundation onlus, is at the Petrella Theater in Longiano with the event dedicated to one of the greatest Italian composers of the second half of the 20th century, Luciano Berio, also a pioneer in the field of electronic music, for a perfect combination of contemporaneity: the Latvian soprano Liga Liedskalnina will be on stage, accompanied on the piano by Stefano Malferrari. For those who love the music of great American composers such as Gershwin, Zappa, Miller, the next appointment of the Sere d’Estate 2022 Review is not to be missed: on Saturday the members of theAlma Saxophone Quartet, graduated from the Conservatory of Terni under the guidance of Maestro Emiliano Rodriguez and, despite their young age, very active in the national and international concert scene with the most heterogeneous repertoires, passing with ease from transcriptions of the classical repertoire, to jazz, up to the most recent original songs. Again on Saturday in Tornano, a hamlet of Mercato Saraceno, the midsummer concert with will be with the engaging trio Total Peppers whose music ranges from rock to pop, from opera to jazz, from reggae to Italian songs to be sung together with the public. The artist Alberto Pazzaglia, known as Betobahia, will instead be the protagonist of the evening aperitif at the Villa Celeste bathroom on the seafront of Cesenatico Ponente on Saturday: the king of the romances of the Romagna beaches will propose a medley of his musical production, starting from the successes such as “Ciapa la Galeina”, “Patacca Vigliacca”, “Come to Romagna” and the new hits. Last appointment at the Rocca Malatestiana with the experience of the concert at sunrise followed by a visit to the panoramic stands and breakfast: on Sunday the mausica is entrusted to the pianist Claudio Vignali (under 40) with dozens of prizes and awards behind him, he has performed in some of the most important Italian and international Festivals, Theaters and Jazz Clubs.
Between poetry and shows
For the review Puppets & Figures double appointment at the weekend: on Friday in Stradone di Borghi the Florentine company Pupi di Stac will be on stage with the show Rapunzel. Piazza Castello di Montenovo di Montiano hosts on Sunday the Zanubrio Marionettes company by Riccardo Canestrari with the show Il parrot della Contessa, or Sganapino love broker, a new adventure of Balanzone and his servant Sganapino. The literary review continues “Montiano dei Poeti”, Saturday, when there will be a series of local poets who will follow one another on stage with their lyrics in dialect and in Italian: Loris Babbini, Dino Bartolini, Lorenzo Scarponi, Bruno Suppo, Andrea Foschi. The soundtrack of the evening will be entrusted to Marco Sforza, singer-songwriter from the lower Emilia region, ironic, cheeky and learned of great histrionic skills, already a guest of the previous edition of the review. A new appointment with the Plautus Festival, this time in Piazzetta Lucio Pisone in Sarsina: Sunday on stage Michele Mori and Marco Zoppello in the tragicomedy of art “Don Quixote”, of which they also sign the direction. The tents to the sea
On the free beach in front of Piazza Andrea Costa it is possible to visit the twenty-fifth edition of the Sea tents, the original and characteristic open-air art exhibition on the beach of Cesenatico which, like every year, also becomes a real installation for the use of beach-goers. The chosen theme is Pop Art and the curtains were made by the students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna. The tents will remain available until Sunday 11 September.
Art and visits
The special is back on Friday tour of the fortress to admire the Malatesta city at sunset: the Rocca di Cesena is ready to welcome its guests to allow them to admire one of the most evocative views of the city, the one from the panoramic terraces of the fortress. Guided tour at sunset, which will lead visitors between the internal walkways and the imposing Mastio and Female towers, to discover Malatesta anecdotes and the history of the territory. At the “Leonardo Da Vinci” Gallery in Cesenatico, it is possible to visit the exhibition of drawings and paintings by Dario Fo – hitherto unpublished – from the Grassi Collection. Seventy paintings complete with technical captions in Italian and English and 24 narrative panels. The exhibition is part of the editorial operation promoted and carried out by the journalist and writer Fabio Grassi and follows the creation of the 188-page volume published by Giovanni Scafoglio for Il Randagio Edizioni “Dario Fo-The Master of Brushes-How the Nobel Prize Painted Theater of him”. Also in Cesenatico, you can admire the exhibition by Ezio Bartocci entitled “Bookmarks. Poets, writers and other portraits … “, set up at Casa Moretti for summer 2022. The artist from the Marches will bring his Bookmarks with portraits of poets and writers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, not only Italians, to the rooms of the house museum: materials that will find a magical harmony with what is kept in the house Cesenatico museum and in particular with Marino Moretti’s “home library”. The exhibition “Artfully scanned” instead, it is set up at the Ex Chiesa Madonna di Loreto in Longiano: the exhibition presents twenty-four clocks on which as many artists, of different artistic origins and tendencies, have intervened, transforming simple “industrial” clocks into real works of art that could find the right place in the prestigious Rocca Malatestiana in Longiano as part of the collection of the “Tito Balestra” Foundation. From Saturday, again in Longiano, at the Tito Balestra Foundation, the exhibition “Second Horizon” curated by Vanni Cuoghi, exhibition of fourteen emerging artists combined with as many poems by Tito Balestra. The exhibition set up in the room inside the Malatesta Castle was born from the meeting of images and words, a fine work of research and involvement. “Salis Venezia” by Mauro Pipani allows himself a particular preview in the evocative spaces of Villa Monty Banks in Cesena: Pipani, an artist consolidated by the mature and intense work of thirty years of artistic activity, has dedicated the last few years to the Salis Venezia project, a corpus of works that has as its common thread “The salt” in its many aspects and with a close link with the places. Saturday, at Villa Torlonia Parco Poesia Pascoli, as part of the exhibition personal exhibition of Simone Pellegrini “Escaptura”, the artist will be in dialogue with the critic and scholar of theater, dance and visual arts Michele Pascarella, also editor-in-chief of Gagarin Orbite Culturali online. The meeting is a special opportunity to discover Pellegrini’s art and visit the exhibition.
