(APS) – The Head of State, Macky Sall, announced on Monday the institution of a Prize of the President of the Republic for the recital of the Holy Quran aimed at creating emulation at the national level and helping a preparation optimal participation of Senegalese candidates in international competitions.

Macky Sall was speaking at the national meeting with the community of daaras (Koranic schools), at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD), in Diamniadio, in the department of Rufisque. About 1500 participants from the fourteen regions of the country took part in the ceremony.

President Sall reiterated “once again, all the importance he attaches to” social inclusion and justice, so that all the living forces of the nation participate in the process of national development and benefit from it” in accordance to his vision of “Senegal for all, and Senegal for all”.

According to him, “taking care of our daaras and our graduates in Arabic, is fully in line with Axis II of the Emerging Senegal Plan dedicated to human capital, of which education and training are two major components”.

Macky Sall argued that ”for a 95% Muslim country, it is important to ensure that our daaras are well taken care of, spiritual education tools since the entry of Islam into our country several years ago. centuries”.

The daara, he said, “professes the Word of God, while inculcating humility and humanity which asks everyone to forget their ego to cultivate altruism and human brotherhood. .”

On the strength of this observation, he paid tribute during this ceremony to ”all the religious figures of our country who, through the ages, help in the formation of spiritual and societal values ​​which purify the soul and elevate the spirit. “.

He also greeted and thanked ”our general Caliphs, as well as the Serigne and the Ndèyu daara who continue to perpetuate the teaching of the authentic values ​​of Islam, religion of the middle ground, according to the words of the Prophet Mohamed (Peace and salvation on him).”

“We need it badly, in these troubled times when our values ​​of culture and civilization are impacted and abused by material servitude, imposture, the did you see me, oversized egos and the flattering need to appear” , he noted.

In this regard, the Head of State expressed his “determination to continue the modernization of the daaras, so that they can adapt to the realities of their time while keeping their traditional vocation of education and training”.

Since 2012, the State has set up specific projects and programs of national scope for the benefit of 1357 daara, for a total investment of more than 25 billion FCFA, said the Head of State.

This has enabled “the construction and equipment of 64 modern daaras, of which 8 are nearing completion, the rehabilitation of 99 traditional daaras, the support of 76 preschool daaras and the ongoing construction of 14 public preschool daaras,” said he added.

Macky Sall indicated that these specific programs and projects have also facilitated the recruitment of 100 Quranic teachers in the civil service, the recruitment and training of 665 service providers for daaras, the training of 76 Quranic teachers for pre-school daaras and the training of 1,581 members of daara management committees.

In order to “cohere this new dynamic of promoting daaras and graduates in the Arabic language”, President Sall recalls having set up, “in May 2021, an Assistance Office for daaras and graduates of the Arabic language”. ‘Arab teaching’.

This new structure attached to the Presidency of the Republic, “is responsible, among other things, for promoting consultation with the actors, socio-professional organizations and religious personalities ensuring the functioning of the daara system”, he explained.

It will also pay, he said, “particular attention to programs for the integration, employment, financing and social protection of learners, their supervisors and graduates of Arab education”.

The Head of State considered that despite these achievements, challenges remain to be met “for a better integration of daaras into our socio-educational and economic system”.

That is why he said he requested “an exhaustive mapping of the daaras, in order to further refine our intervention strategies”.
