Paola (Cosenza) – A new way to know and enhance the territory: this is the proposal of the Italian Touring Club for return of the historic initiative “The treasure peninsula© “, which for over twenty years has brought citizens and tourists to the discovery of lesser-known Italy, with a new look dedicated to paths to invite you to live an experience of walking throughout Italy on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June. In these two days all the regions of Italy, at the same time, will host events along the path chosen to invite inhabitants and tourists to live an experience of knowledge and enhancement of the paths themselves, open to any age and suitable for all “legs” with the aim of underlining how each path can be enjoyed by a wide audience, starting with families including children and not just trained athletes. From the Alps to the Madonie, twenty paths in twenty Italian regions to discover, by walking, real and ideal paths that unite people, stories, productive activities of territories that usually receive less attention than urban centers, also through in-depth and presentation activities. of the route, tastings of typical products, artisan products and entertainment activities.

In Calabria the Way follows the steps of San Francesco da Paola, patron saint of Calabria and the people of the sea, founder of the Order of the Minims. There are two routes currently active: the “Via del Giovane” (San Marco Argentano – Paola), it represents the journey of youthful restlessness, which Francis travels to decide how to serve the Lord; the “Via dell’Eremita” (Paola – Paterno Calabro) it is the journey that Brother Francis makes as an adult to go and found the first monastery of the Minims after that of Paola. Both routes cross the Paolano Apennines and enter varied naturalistic landscapes and ancient villages that retain all the charm of traditions.The heart of the Way is the Sanctuary of San Francesco in Paola around which the activities of the Treasure Peninsula are concentrated with a path between nature, history and spirituality that intertwines the elements of earth, air, water and fire.
