Cooperation in Burkina Faso: The World Bank grants more than 185 billion FCFA to the government

This Thursday, June 30, 2022, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Foresight, Seglaro Abel Somé, and the Resident Representative of the World Bank in Burkina Faso, Maïmouna Mbow Fam, proceeded, in Ouagadougou, to the signing of three financing agreements.

With a total amount of 185.58 billion FCFA, the three financing agreements are intended for the implementation of projects in the sectors of environment, energy, agriculture, animal and fisheries resources. , health, water and sanitation.

The first agreement is additional funding for the implementation of the Emergency Territorial Development and Resilience Project (PUDTR). Amounting to 73.8 billion FCFA, this financing consists of a grant of 39.9 billion FCFA and a loan of 39.9 billion FCFA. It aims to support the government in formulating an appropriate response to the food crisis. This additional funding provided to the PUDTR will be implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries.

Worth about 75 billion FCFA, the second agreement relates to the financing of the Project for the sustainable management of municipal landscapes for REDD+ (PGPC/REDD+). It aims to strengthen the well-being of populations while supporting them in managing the impacts of climate change, through sustainable municipal land management and competitiveness around natural resources. Placed under the technical supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation, it targets 96 municipalities in 8 regions of Burkina Faso.

Finally, the third agreement, in the amount of approximately CFAF 36.8 billion, is additional funding for the implementation of the Covid-19 Pandemic Preparedness and Response Project (PPR-COVID-19). It is made up of a grant of about 22.3 billion FCFA and a loan of about 14.5 billion FCFA. The PPR-COVID-19 aims to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and to strengthen the national public health preparedness system.

For Dr Delwendé Innocent Kiba, the government representative and minister in charge of agriculture, this ceremony is the culmination of a series of exchanges and consultations between the key players involved in each of the projects.

“The World Bank will make available to Burkina Faso a total amount of 309.3 million USD, or more than 170 billion FCFA. This reflects once again all the goodwill of the bank to consistently support our country in its dynamics of strengthening the resilience of the populations and the country shaken by the security, health, food and ecological crises, “said the government representative. at the ceremony.


He translated his sincere thanks on behalf of the government to the World Bank for this donation. “Thank you again to the World Bank for the additional funding of the Emergency Territorial Development and Resilience Project (PUDTR) which will strengthen the resilience of people’s food systems for sustainable food security”, he suggested.
