Changing the way we look at aging, anticipating and mobilizing all the solutions to meet the challenges of advancing age: fundamental issues for “aging well” by 2025…

Aging and aging, subjects of concern and anxiety for a majority of French people

This is one of the major lessons of the 5th edition of the France 2025 Generali – ViaVoice – Radio Classique barometer: while the aging of the French population continues, and people aged over 60 will represent by 2040 a third of our population, the themes of aging ‒ in particular retirement, health, dependency ‒ represent both important issues of concern for a majority of French people (77%) and, above all, issues of concern.

Thus, 37% of our compatriots say they feel “worried” and 33% “resigned” to ageing. And they are only 25% to declare themselves serene in the face of the challenges of advancing age.

More worryingly, 59% of French people admit to being “little” or “not at all informed” about these subjects (retirement, health, dependency, etc.) and almost one in two is convinced that in the future, we will live longer, but in less good health and with a lower quality of life than in the past… A real revolution since, for the first time, longer life no longer necessarily rhymes in the imagination of the French with any improvement, but with an uncertain future and a deterioration in living conditions.

Imaginaries marked by the dictates of “youthism”, the fear of aging and the difficulty of thinking positively about advancing age

Another lesson from the France 2025 barometer highlighted by François Miquet-Marty, President of ViaVoice and the Global Center for the Future : “ aging well », for a large fraction of our fellow citizens, would be associated with rather paradoxical representations. For a majority of French people, it would indeed be a question of advancing in age, preserving if possible ad vitam the same way of life, without experiencing any of the disadvantages of aging. Aging while staying young and healthy, in short.

A vision no doubt dictated by the effects of “youthism” and the fear of aging, but which Marie de Hennezel, clinical psychologist and author several works on old age. While calling on seniors to “take hold of their advancing years” and to preserve their self-esteem by all means, to remain “desiring” and to give meaning to their daily lives (four key factors for longevity and maintaining good health), the author also calls for pushing new imaginaries around old age. So, she recalls, if the body declines with age, one of the paradoxes of aging is that thought grows. And there can be a real spiritual blossoming in old age, especially when we learn new things “.

In this respect, “aging well” can be understood both as a unknown ” and an ” grace » according to Marie de Hennezel, on condition of knowing how to accept the perspective of one’s own finitude and « take charge of old age “. This notably involves, for everyone, better anticipation of the consequences of advancing age and the search for solutions to live it more serenely, by alleviating whenever possible the ” mental load weighing on caregivers.

Promoting the employment of seniors and their well-being: a growing challenge for companies in the face of the ongoing demographic revolution

Founder of Club Landoy, a think tank dedicated to demographic transition, Sibyl the Mayor sees the aging of the French population as a ” major, unprecedented and largely underestimated collective challenge by most stakeholders, starting with public authorities.

Recalling thatone in two French people will be over 50 in less than 10 yearsthe executive director of the Bayard group is surprised by the lack of awareness of our fellow citizens on the subject: ” a demographic reversal is underway in our country, and we are looking elsewhere “.

It is precisely to raise awareness of this issue, and to work concretely in favor of the sustainable employment of seniors, a factor of inclusion and a more serene transition between working life and retirement, that Club Landoy signed in early March 2022. with 32 of its partners (including Generali) the “1st act of inter-company commitment in favor of employees over 50”.

Placed under the High Patronage of the State Secretariat for the Social, Solidarity and Responsible Economy, this unprecedented act is broken down into 10 key commitments around Recruitment, Training, Retention in employment, Support for career development and well-being at work for seniors, but also around retirement and raising awareness of age-related stereotypes.

Providing services that meet the needs of seniors and their relatives and caregivers: a raison d’être of Generali

Beyond its commitment to the employment of seniors, Generali France also provides concrete responses to the needs of its customers. at each of the major stages of their lives. This obviously applies to preparing for retirement, as much as to supporting them afterwards, regardless of their state of health, income or degree of autonomy…

As reminded Caroline Bruzac, director in charge of insurance solutions for individuals at GeneraliGenerali’s vocation is to support its customers throughout their lives, as a true partner capable of responding to their changing needs.

In this respect, Generali France has been supporting people getting older for decades, by offering dedicated savings, retirement or health solutions. Orthodontics or maternity cover are not offered, insurance contracts for seniors focus on their specific needs: finance their loss of autonomy, if necessary, cover their life accidents or even finance and organize their funerals so as not to put the burden on their loved ones.

A bouquet of services to deploy

And to go further, we have the will to develop a full range of services for seniors and their caregivers thanks to the effective partnerships that have sometimes been established for years with major players in the medico-social sector, assistance and home help “, specifies Caroline Bruzac.

For example, Benjamin Ostrowska, Tele-assistance and Retail Director at Europ Assistancecites the home help services deployed in France by some 1,700 PRO-SENIORS employees (cleaning, assistance with washing, meal preparation, etc.) enabling elderly people who so wish to remain the as long as possible at home… thereby relieving close relatives and other carers of this sometimes heavy burden.

Capable of responding 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the most diverse and sometimes most urgent requests from their senior customers, the remote assistance services offered by Europ Assistance, in partnership with Generali, constitute another example of local support that the company is able to provide to its customers. The remote assistance operations center responds to more than 70,000 calls from people in distress every month. ” Our job is to reassure and support seniors. Our solutions can also help ease the mental load of caregivers. To preserve your autonomy and age well at home, you sometimes need a little help and there are solutions on these subjects. », Comments Benjamin Ostrowska.

Beyond the services already included in the contracts, theGenerali’s senior services offer has been available since May 2022, with the same objective of supporting seniors (and their caregivers) at each major stage of advancing age.
