Castellabate, success for the debate on the role of small publishing at the base of sustainable and effective local development

Last 30 July, in the historic courtyard of one of the most identifying places in our Cilento, the Castello dell’Abate di Castellabate, which dominates the Gulf of Posidio from above, celebrated by Strabone, as part of the “Southern Books” review, now in its thirty-second edition, hosted by the creator, Prof. Gennaro Malzone and in the presence of a passionate and participating public, the Cilento Mare Blu FLAG and the Cilento Regeneratio LAG, offered their contribution by proposing an interesting debate on the role of small publishing, in placing culture and identity at the basis of sustainable and effective local development. Through the experiences of the same bodies, the results of measures implemented in this sense were reviewed which, starting with the skepticism of those who do not understand the territory from being strangers to it, the desire and the need for a vision that exceeds temporality and is capable of to untie the knots of development with the same pragmatism and courage that Alexander the Great showed in facing the Gordian one, then became international best practices, taken as a model by Europe to be replicated elsewhere.

This is the case of the action “Tourist Packages”, operated by the Cilento Mare Blu FLAG, masterfully executed by the Institute of High Culture, Giambattista Vico Foundation, which has realized the dream of arranging the usability of territorial peculiarities through paths reasoned on the model of a “cultural and sensorial metropolitan”, also accompanied by innovative communication systems.

At the lounge, led by the Director of the FLAG, Claudio Aprea and chaired by the Vice President of the LAG Cilento Regeneratio, Daniela Di Bartolomeo, were attended by:

the Councilor with Delegation for Culture of the Municipality of Castellabate, Clemente Migliorino;
the Councilor with Delegation for Culture of the Municipality of Agropoli, Francesco Crispino;
the Provincial Councilor and Coordinator of the LAG, Luca Cerretani;
the RAF of the FLAG, Carmelo Infante;
the Chairman of the LAG’s Board of Statutory Auditors, Germano Di Feo.
Numerous guests who discussed with the speakers, including: the poetess Milena Cicatiello, the painter Nera D’Auto, the architect Maria Giordano, the President of ASMEF Salvo Iavarone, Prof. Elvira Falivene, University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.

The conclusions, then, entrusted to the philosopher, prof. Vincenzo Pepe, have traced a moment of pure magic.
The meaning of identity through the analysis of the spirituality of a territory, starting with Parmenides and the Eleatic school. From the concept of being, which anticipates the metaphysical conception of the universal and of the measure of man in relation to his ambitus, concepts born at the mouth of the Alento and which have become the foundations of Western culture. In the course of his dissertation, full of ideas and stories, Professor Pepe overcame the concept of Genius loci, saving it from the common trivialization and transposing it into the broader one of “memory presence”, the one that allows us to operate, thanks to culture, choices based on the real values and attitudes of the territory and to avoid building cathedrals in the desert.

The success of the initiative encourages the organizing bodies to continue along this profitable path and to positively contaminate more local actors for a development strategy increasingly oriented towards culture and identity and increasingly shared.
