Since its theatrical release, Avatar the Way of the Water hits the cinema. The story of a people’s fight to save their planet, and above all, the magnificent computer-generated images (CGI) to create landscapes and extraterrestrial creatures, fascinate us to the point that the film breaks all records. The CGI also allows very human actors to become the Na’Vi, gigantic creatures (3 meters high on average) with blue skin. But do you know which people are hiding behind these faces? Follow us, we tell you everything!
The main character ofAvatar the Way of the Water is of course Jake Sully, the human turned Na’Vi. He is played by Sam Worthington, an Australian actor whose career took off thanks to the first opus, notably with the main role in the films “Clash of the Titans”.
His companion, Neytiri, is played by actress Zoe Saldana, nicknamed the queen of science fiction thanks to her roles in Avatar of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she plays Gamora many times, or even the film duology “Star Trek” where she has the role of Lieutenant Uhura.
In Avatar The Way of the Water, we discover a new Na’vi clan, that of the Metkayina, who live in the lagoons and thus evolve mainly in the water. Among them is Ronal, their Tsahik (spiritual leader). James Cameron did not choose an unknown for this role since it is Kate Winslet, the eternal Rose of ” titanic »! She even broke apnea records while filming in the set’s swimming pools.
Ronal’s husband and chief of the Metkayina tribe, Tonowari, is played by Cliff Curtis, a New Zealand actor seen in “Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw”, “Colombiana” or “Die Hard 4: Back to Hell”. . He’s definitely the band’s least known adult actor.
Avatar The Way of the Water marks the return of the character of Colonel Quarritch in an Avatar version, we will say no more so as not to spoil those who have not yet had the pleasure of seeing the film. But it’s no surprise that the actor from the first, Stephen Lang, takes over the role.
The Young Generation of Avatar the Way of the Water
We will start the younger generation with THE biggest star of the cast: Sigourney Weaver, made famous thanks to the role of Ellen Ripley in the “Alien” saga. Interpreter of Dr. Grace Augustine in the first opus, a role that she takes over for a few scenes in the second, she is above all the face of Kiri Sully, adopted daughter of the couple and biological daughter of Grace. An actress in her seventieth decade for a young teenager!
Unlike their elders, the children and teenagers in the cast are not particularly well known. The biological children of Jake Sully and Neytiri are played by Britain Dalton (Lo’ak), Jamie Flatters (Neteyam) and Trinity Bliss (Tuktirey), while young Bailey Bass plays the daughter of the couple formed by Ronal and Tonowari (Tsireya) .
So, which actor surprised you the most behind the computer-generated blue faces? If you still hesitate to see the film, we invite you to listen to the third episode of our new podcastin which we talk about it!
